Hello all so yesterday I bought a component cable for my Wii hoping to get a better signal since everyone reccomends it. Long story short I have good vision and I am seeing absolutely no difference and I am shocked. Coming from the Dreamcast and ps2 where these connectors usually make things better I see no difference between my edtv and my HDTV. Who dropped the ball this badly? I'm sure others will say it looks better to them but I am very picky about things not being smooth, blurry,or discolored but I just see no difference. I'm thinking about returning the cable for a couple of days worth of food at this point

Which cable were you using before?
I used a composite cable, it looked like shit (specially with colors, red and blue).
I used an SVideo cable, it looked quite OK, way better than the composite cable.
I used a component cable, it might have looked better than SVideo on progressive mode but not by that much.

did you enabled HDTV\EDTV options on wii settings? yeah, probably dumb question.. but you should be able to see the diference, specially getting rid of the RCA "glitches"...

also, cables cost 15 here on every retail store (third party ones or even oficial, doesnt matter) am not willing to pay 15 euros for cable..
you should get it for 5 euros or something from ebay...

I assumed it would be a big difference like on the Dreamcast VGA box. Yes I am setting it to 480p which funny enough my edtv only shows it half the time but I used my DSLR and my own eyes to capture the same scenes and I just notice no difference on the edtv or HDTV for that matter with component. Shoot your right I forgot about like the green snow I got with crystal bearers. Well I may buy a fosmon cable from Amazon because I love those guys but this garbage is going back. I seriously was hoping for Dreamcast level jumps visually.

Component on Wii < Svideo on GC.
Nintendo went cheap on the Wii's analog converter.

But also (talking about US Wii) Component on Wii < Svideo on Wii, at least in my experience.
Perhaps I just used a cheap component cable, but I got better image quality from the SVideo output in 480i.

PS: Still I couldn't use progressive mode on SVideo and that was sad.

I am not familiar with this and if I am it goes unnoticed across both. I may not have used the best reference but I just grabbed some shots of ssbb I can upload it so I guess others see what I see

That's the main difference between composite and component cables, and it's really noticeable to me. Maybe your TV does something funny to remove the noise. If you haven't noticed it with composite, I'm not surprised you can't see the difference between the two. ;)

Well that one is a edtv so it may be shit. I notice it with ps2 on my 720p TV just not with the Wii. Going to try s-video I did see a slight improvement with component but it was pretty much a brighter more accurate image

On my 46" tv the Wii has always looked better set to 480i instead of 480p even with component cables. Even after I got a high end av receiver with a pretty nice scaler in it & ran the Wii through that instead of directly to the tv... to this day it still looks better set to 480i. MUCH sharper and clearer. Maybe my Wii is bunk and the two settings are swapped around, lol. Anyway - maybe try that and see if it's any improvement. I have seen others stating the same thing in the past - that 480i actually looked better with their component cables. Worth a shot I guess.

I have the official component cables and I notice a considerate difference between composite and component on a mediocre 720p LCD screen. I'm sure this difference would be more apparent on a big full HD one, but newer TVs handle analog video differently.

maybe your tv upscales interlaced signals better or something?
I actually have a capture card that's meant to record 480p but it comes out all wavy on 480p (what I get for paying $25 for a capture card) and it looks great on 480i

I do see a difference but its not enough for a 20$ cable. I'll go on amazon and get some 5 dollar cables that don't have a shitty plastic piece I have to switch to HD. In short it was a waste and garbage that got returned. As most say either get the official cables or Amazon not local stores. Thanks everyone

Well look at the bright side at least you didn't buy a GameCube component cable then you would really be pissed. But that cable has a high resale value I bought 2 d-terminal cables (Japan component) and modded them to component. I bought both for $120 and sold one for $185 and the other I just sold last month for $240. If you look at a side-by-side comparison of Wii component and GameCube component you would be wondering what the fuck did Nintendo do to the Wii to make it look like crap. This might be the reason for your bad picture and not your cable that you only spent 20 dollars on
