My friend has a Acer v3-551g, A8-4500M , 8GB of Ram and AMD 7660G + 7670M Dual Graphics (The problem)
I have installed a ton of drivers and I keep getting issues on one game but the other one doesn't have it, or as soon as I enter in a game the driver just crashes... currently it has catalyst 12.9 if i'm not mistaken

I would like to know if there's any driver (custom or not) suggested for this laptop , we mainly play CS:GO, cod: BO2, battlefield 3 and 4, and we are now trying to run GTA 5 on his laptop (because we saw this video of a guy playing with the same gpu but different CPU) and so far it runs at 15fps with spikes to 40 and some time it has a huge input lag.

Also he has a sticker that says his gpu has 2gb vram but if I disable the crossfire the gta only finds 512mb??

Thanks

P.s: I hate amd drivers....

Seems like GTA V doesn't open on any AMD Switchable graphics, i have one too (Intel 4000+8850m) and when i click at him it just crashes without opening, it's a rockstar/game problem and seems only them can fix it.
There also workarounds for opening the game but it's kind of hard sometimes to do that.
You can see the article here:
http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/GPU-608.aspx

We can just wait they do something (it has been 2 weeks since first report of the problem)

It just works for laptops that you can choose only 1 videocard to work with, doesn't work on recent models neither the recent versions of AMD/leshcat drivers, even 15.4.
I just really dont get the all amd naming and drivers, I am a nvidia user, and I hope to go that way for a long time. Drivers are separated in mobile and Desktop, and one size fits ALL!! Even for OEM laptops

But they do, mobile drivers IS separated from desktop ones, also, Drivers versions are date in Year.Month format of the release, like (20)15.4 or (20)14.12 and sometimes receive a codename, like "Omega", it's not so hard do understand that. Besides that, the drivers work fine for most games, the real problem is rockstar side with GTA V, not (complete) AMD fault.

the trouble is not the versions :P is the gpu models, maybe because I'm used to nvidia names that are easier to know when a gpu is made for gaming, if it has GTX > Games, if it has GT > some games

Yes, the models can be quite confusing but it's also somewhat similar to NVIDIA naming if you stop to look at that.

That must be rough. Productive I'm sure but hard to balance with daily life

@Maximumbeans, Indeed. I've been working on getting this Infecutus chip to work on my PS2. But after soldering, I realised that a plastic piece was missing from the power ribbon cable to the power and eject buttons.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Now I could go with soldering the contacts from the cable to the connector on the mobo, but doesn't sound like a good permanent solution.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
Man, that's beyond my brain  I'm no good with hardware for now. I'd like to get into hardmods in future though
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Maybe start practice soldering. Get a cheap-ass soldering iron and follow some good YouTube tutorials.

Least my experience has gotten better than over a decade ago. My iron would constantly bump into components and break them.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
Sounds good. I actually did soldering but like 16 years ago for school so uuuuh probably rusty haha
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Same here. I did soldering at school from a teacher who I honestly liked since he had plenty of good electronics experience.
