Hacking Have a 3.55 OFW and some questions.

Hello, so I have a Fat on 3.55 OFW, and what I wanna get is a good stable custom firmware, play the latest backups from an external hdd with something like multiman, install isos from my discs to the external hdd and launch it with multiman, add downloaded isos and ps store ggames from a pc , play ps2, and ps1 iso, and some emulators. I don't care about online.

What is the best stuff that I can install right now? Do you have any guides? Thanks!

Any COBRA CFW would work, to be honest with you.
MY recommendation is REBUG http://rebug.me
Get either the 4.65.2 or 4.70.1 firmwares. Get the REX version since that's for CEX PS3s
Multiman is at 4.66 but it'll still work on any firmware.

You should also follow their instructions about the PS2 ISO/Classics Launcher. You don;t need to do it since Multiman comes with ISO launching capabilities already if you're on COBRA CFWs.
It's just REBUG has fixed the PS3 wireless sync issue. Meaning you don't need a USB cable to play PS2 games anymore. OFW users are stuck with Sony's bug though (Wireless for CFW master race)

First of all, to Copy games and move stuff. You need Multiman. It will auto detect compatible external HDD and USBs.
You use the Multiman File Manager in mmOS tab and it's right under Update.
IT is like Windows Explorer. You can Copy, Cut, Paste, Properties (File sizes),etc
X is used to Select 1 or more items and O brings up a menu to do the above. Double X moves you between folders.
Navigate the folders and move things where you want them.

The folders for Downloaded games (folder) is dev_hdd0/GAMES and dev_USB000/GAMES
PS3 ISOs go in dev_hdd0/PS3ISO and USB/PS3ISO
PS2 and PS1 ISOs can only be played on Internal HDD and that location is PS2ISO and PSXISO folders in hdd0
As for emulators, google Retroarch.
The ROMs for the emulator can be launched from External USB.

Free PSNStore games requires a homebrew called ReActPSN and you use PKGs (package files) and RAPs. (Get RAPs from PSNStuff)

Finally, to copy games from disc. You go to Multiman XMB-->GAMES. Hover over your disc game and Press Triangle and Copy it. Depending on your option, it'll end up in the PS3 Internal HDD GAMES or PS3ISO folder. You can move that whereever you want them to be. PS3 games can be played off External so move it there if you want it there.

Two questions:
, I've seen people saying that multiman doesn't work on latest cfw and I should get somthing like webman. Is this true or false?

Can I get any random 1TB internal storage and will work wih multiman or should I get something specific?

I have no idea. I'm currently on REBUG 4.65.2 and Multiman 4.66. I'm not sure about the "not working on latest." It should work.
You could always go to 4.65.2 first and wait for a new Multiman version with support for 4.70.1 and update it at that time. The newest games are still working for me on 4.65.
I still use Webman though because it's more convenient but File Manager is still in Multiman

Load your backups from XMB is very convenient. As the name implies, it uses the Internet Browser to navigate your PS3's internal network. No Internet required.

As for external HDD, FAT32 works on all PS3s, native FAT32 support. The problem with this is the 4GB individual file limit. You can't copy a file in if it's larger than 4GB. It depends on the game if it's a folder. ISOs....is all the files compressed into one big file. It's definitely going to have problems so
I recommend using the regular backups (game folders) like BLUSXXXXX that has PS3_GAME folder in it with USRDIR and LICDIR subfolders, PARAM.SFO, ICON.PNG, etc. (This is how most PS3 games are like when you DL it)

On the other hand, COBRA CFWs have some support for NTFS external HDDs and I have no idea on the success rate for those. NTFS has no file limit.
To change to NTFS, you have to go to Multiman and turn on the NTFS support in that very long list of settings. (Only for COBRA CFWs, vanilla CFWs don't have the support)

I read that the limit for hard disks is 3TB. I use an 1tb hard disk and it's working fine, no problems at all.

About multiman, i'm using habib 4.70 with cobra and multiman 4.66 is working fine in cobra mode(mmCm). all the games i tried played without problems. Haven't had any troubles so far.

Alright and do I have to use a specific program to add games to the hdd like wbfs manager on the wii for example, or just copy the files to the root of the hdd from the pc?

The required program is Multiman (It's the backup manager + file manager + several other things. Hence the name Multi Manager)
You can put the games on USB then transfer them into HDD with the File Manager.
or you can use FTP with an ethernet cable to transfer directly from PC using a FTP program like Filezilla.

You also need "FTP Service" enabled in the Settings.

You can have some PS3 games and ROMs for Retroarch on USB as long as none of the individual files are over 4GB. (Applicable for FAT32 USBs only. NTFS USBs and external HDDs do away with the file limit)

I usually FTP my stuff and use File Manager for Deleting and Cut/Paste to move files. The USB middleman is gone so it saves alot of time for me

Thank you very much!, sorry for my stupid questions, since I can't use FTP because I'm having bad connections, will be able to run game folders larger than 4gb better in an fat32 or ntfs external? Also the dumps from discs are in game folders or in iso format?

FTP does not require an internet connection. You just need an ethernet cable and tweeking your Ipv4 on your ethernet port.Then use the I.P you tweeked there (The guide lists 10.1.1.2)
It's direct PC to PS3 Intranet connection, no Internet required. Transfer speed is more dependent on your PC's speed and possibly the cable. My FTP usually goes 2.0 MB/sec. Once you got the PC side setup, you won't have to mess with it ever again. (Unless you're saying you use the ethernet cable for Internet then nevermind.)
If you use Wifi, even if it's really bad. You can do this.

Only FAT32 format has the 4GB individual file limit (You can have folders much much bigger (Ex: 10GB) but it's the individual file's sizes that can't be bigger than 4GB)
NTFS has no 4GB individual file limit but the compatibility is mostly okay. (Never tried it) COBRA CFW is required for the NTFS support it brings.

Dumps from Disc is as a folder. On Multiman, the blank disc icon (which you should not mount in this state) will be replaced by your inserted disc and you can Copy it to Internal.

Thank you so much, just to clarify something if you don't mind.
So I make a games folder in the root of the external hdd called games and I put there the ps3 game files. What about ps1 and ps2 files do they need to be iso? and where should I put them? Also what should I do if I wanna play online? Is is safe to play with games booted from multiman on the 4.65.2 rebug? Thanks!

Folder called GAMES should work fine, and else GAMEZ. For ps1 and ps2 iso's create 2 folders called PSXISO and PS2ISO. For the online play there is PSNpatch, they just released a new version. Don't know how to use a 4.70 spoofer, since i use habib 4.70. About the safety.. there is a change you get banned ofcourse, though if you spoof correctly and don't launch homebrew it should be fine. I booted multiman while signed in on psn and nothing has happened yet.. Got scared and set up reactpsn quickly.. just in case.

oh and i read don't ever play COD but dunno about that as i don't play CoD anyway.
