Hi folks,

Looking for a bit of help. Just bought a Gateway 3ds.

I was following this video (aswell as the official Gateway Manual):

I have gotten as far as installing the exploit on the blue cart, installing my launcher, backing up my SysNAND (It's a 4.5.0.10E if that will make any difference) and formatting my SD for EmuNAND. However, I continued to follow the tutorial and installed the software update in gateway EmuNAND mode via the DS. From what I have read on here, I assume I have now made my EmuNAND 9.6 which again, from what I can gather isn't compatible yet.

I am able to boot into the gateway menu, but gateway mode just gives me a black screen. I also have no EmuNAND backup as I hadn't even known I needed to do that yet, only at the very basic install stages and not used to this cart yet.

My question is, what can I do from here? Is there anyway to revert my EmuNAND back to default and start over? Or do I simply have to wait until Gateway create a patch for this EmuNAND version? Or am I completely screwed from following their official guides? :P

Thanks,
brainiac.

Good news! Simply format emunand again to revert back to your sysnand's version.

Make sure you have copied your sysnand backup to your computer - if you brick sysnand with no backup you're done for good.

Assuming you don't care about what's on emuNAND just backup the SD card contents on a computer, go to the Gateway menu on your 3DS, choose the 'Format EmuNAND' option again, then copy the stuff back et voila you should have a fresh working emunand on 4.5

You can update it to 9.5 using .CIA updates and devmenu OR using a rom containing the update (though I'm unsure about that second one, I've heard bad things)

Its because GateWay Emunand doesnt support 9.6 version, only rxmode and sky3ds work

Thanks for the speedy replies guys! Great relief :D. In terms of .CIA updates / dev menu, could you provide any links / guides on how to go about this?

Using a rom is actually the simplest way, for him I would suggest xenoblade (9.4E).

  1. Be absolutely sure you have formatted emunand
  2. Copy the rom to your gateway micro sd
  3. Hold DPAD UP while entering gateway mode
  4. Select the rom, press OK when prompted to update

Great, thanks! Formatting emunand back to 4.5 as we speak. I assume you mean hold DPAD up instead of Left Shoulder when I am choosing User profile?

Holding left shoulder is to show the gateway menu. I'm not sure if it works if you boot directly without going to the menu, so hold left shoulder to get the menu and then DPAD UP while selecting boot emunand.

Grand so, much obliged :D. Is DPAD UP a command to allow it to update off the games or something then? Can't find much documentation on the shortcuts.

There aren't many and they're rarely used.

L - show gateway menu instead of booting directly to emunand
DPAD UP (when selecting emunand) - disable update spoofing, enable updating from rom/cart*
DPAD UP (when selecting downgrade) - restore nand backup to sysnand
R - force fpga update (most will never use)

Yes, you will not notice anything different, but thats fine. Proceed to load up your rom with the update on it, and it should say 'This game requires an update, update to X.X.X-X?' just click yes.

Xenoblade is for N3DS only from what I've seen, any other games at the same / similar FW for standard 3DS?

Also, just randomly now after putting my first file on the SD card, if I try to boot into Gateway Menu OR Gateway Mode I am getting a pop up saying "An error has occured forcing the software to close. The system will now restart". All I did since it last worked was store one ROM on the SD and I changed my system's date and time / username. Any ideas?

You can try to reinstall the profile exploit and copy a fresh launcher.dat onto the SD which may help.

Great, that sorted that, thanks guys. One final issue I'm having. When I try to run Win32 Disk imager, regardless of it I try exFAT or FAT32 SD card type, I get a pop up saying it might corrupt a physical device, and it does just that every time. Any idea why this is happening? And is there any other way to install the ROMS if I cannot get this tool to function?

Also, still looking for an alternative ROM with the right firmware version to install EmuNAND from.
