the PSP and 360 has one..why can't we discuss individual 3DS scene releases anymore? Really miss that. I remember before the big crash and GBATEMP changed forum providers the scene release list was the first thing I saw when going on this page. Did the temp hide it to look more like a legitimate gaming "news" site?

There's nothing stopping people from making their own scene release threads (minus download links o/c).
It's DYI or nothing because, as was already mentioned, gbatemp is trying to appear legit. But they won't stand in the way of the community as far as I know.

The reason is we wanted to steer away from questionable content but at the same time, there wasn't really a scene to report on. There were no 3DS flashcarts back then when the decision was made and the newer gen of consoles are not hacked.
We are moving to become a more legitimate community but we will always allow members to talk about what they want, whether that is hacking or piracy - anything goes really.
There are plenty of NFO sites if you want scene lists etc.

sorry, never actually saw the confirmation about the permanent removal of the release feed. Anyway that's understandable. Thanks.

I know the thread has run its course but it did get me contemplating the release lists/posts we had in the past. They had their positives and really high notes but I am not sure they were so much a net positive.

Things I liked

Knowing about new games, usually a few days before street date and in a position where I could actually play them and have some real info on them.
Mini reviews, either ones I did or ones others did. The went double when I was actually posting the releases, looking at trailers, overviews and whatever else as I was cobbling boxart and info together for the release.
Minor hacking work. Also cheat making. Neither was especially common in the release threads but it was good when it did crop up.
Translations for those games that needed it -- so many games made playable by explanations and basic menu translations.
The "screw it, I'll give it a go" thing we had going on throughout most of them. So much shovelware that really isn't was discovered that way, to say nothing of good humour during the rest of the time.
The "this game is no good but if the idea intrigues you then check out [this homebrew/this other game].

Things I did not care for
The endless "why won't it work and make me some toast while it is at it, oh I have not updated my flash cart/emulator since [3 years earlier] because I should not have to".
The not so constructive posts. "hurr durr, casual game" really does nothing when others might be giving it a spin for a laugh.

On the other hand the 3ds barely has any games, in terms of variety, quality and volume, and that does not look like it is going to change-- this is year 4 and http://3ds.essh.co/ lists 1714 games, http://www.advanscene.com/ lists 1210 plus 400 off eshop. Now http://gbatemp.net/threads/5-years-of-ds-roms-in-5-days-year-5.237289/ (that is year 5 but year 4 was nearly that alone for the DS). http://forums.no-intro.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=2353 , http://forums.no-intro.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=2443 and http://forums.no-intro.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=2471 would also indicate there is not a mass of undumped games out there.

Equally DS flash carts were good, GBA emulation was great and GBA flash carts were, relatively speaking, not that uncommon and well represented among the commenting peoples. 3ds flash carts are fiddly (simple enough once you know but there is a greater barrier to entry than cost), prone to not working with new releases or needing updates, not so common, emulators more at proof of concept level than usable and ROM hacking is something you have to sit there and actively pursue rather than just feed it to a batch file or run through basic cheat finding methods. I might ponder the size of 3ds games and relative ease of downloading one but I would have to think about that further -- internet speeds and hard drive space has improved but it is not really a matter of getting a file you can afford to ignore by going to your chosen ROM site that sticks them up on rapidshare.

To that end I doubt we will see what was good about them come back and there is no reason for the bad to stop.

FAST6191,

Agreed...I liked individually talking about releases in the spirit of our GBATEMP community. I remember discussing about the anti-piracy circumvention methods (Slot 2 DS Patching, Worms Open Warfare ARM7 exploit, Moogle Of Death Etc, that nintendo gladly tracked i'm sure). A lot of bad shovelware was discovered too for humor purposes..also I discovered some DS (J) and even some exclusive (E) titles due to the community discussing most releases....good times. Oh god the mini-reviews...so many obscure games that I would have never tried if someone else didn't tell me about them.. I miss that.

I also remember the dumb warez requesting fucks who couldn't read and the "gaime won't werk. Data corrupted. Won't save fix it naouw" assholes. I don't miss that. I wouldn't mind a 3DS scene release list. Possibly could discover some underrated games....it's how I found some of the great GBA and WiiWare titles..plenty of shovelware 3DS titles to make lolz and shiggles at...and a lot of exclusive (J) games that the scene could look into and openly discuss. But if the admin doesn't want it and wants the "temp" to appear more legit to the "big 3" then nothing we can do.

I was also a member of the other 3DS / DS "release" site but no one comments, everything is outdated and half the time (from what it looked like) the server bill would fall though and the site would go offline for weeks.

Yeah I miss it too.. The DS release days there were so many titles I would have never picked up but the forum here would show me what was good and what was trash, it was really nice. It's probably the reason I got into rhythm tengoku, amongst a lot of stuff that got my GBA and DS a lot of play.

I dunno how this site is any more "legitimate" or less associated with the "scene" releases by not having the info on the front page. Just to the right of whatever is on the front page is a list of 10 people talking about flashcarts and usb loaders.

Blood of Bahamut, Rhythm Tengoku, Taiko no Tatsujin, both Ouendan games, Chou Shoujuu Mecha MG (GREAT "Giant Robot" GAME) Super Robot Taisen W and others were only discovered by GBATEMP's community.

Assuming you did not mean you would not have discovered them were it not for here
A game from Square Enix and some of the people that did for later (at the time) Final Fantasy games.
A Nintendo published game.
A rhythm game released during the rise of such games
See above
I can see missing this one.
A successor to a series of well regarded strategy games.

I would argue it is the difference between farting in an enclosed space and standing up, spreading your cheeks and going right in someone's face, also in an enclosed space.

All this said you are free to make your own release posts in the forums, you can even number them if you are so inclined. If it comes to pass that it is popular then the subject can certainly be revisited, or at the very least a forum can be made. I will say though that is a reasonable amount of work to do it properly.

I liked the scene release to be updated on which game were released, talking about how good or interesting the games were.
I really don't know what games exists on 3DS, when they are released, etc.
except the one at nintendo directs, most of the games fall off radar.

A feed of released game titles (retail/eshop, not necessarily scene releases) would be good too.
Sometime I look at advanscene ... and see 90% of shovelware :hateit:

interesting...could these plans be possibly brought into motion? Seems like there is a niche and a supporting group behind this idea :P

It would require dedicated members to scan for all releases every day from all region and shops etc.
For scene releases, we had dedicated staff member to update the list, but he left now. It required a lot of time and being always present to get the list up to date.

there are a lot of nfo website which can be used as feed, but not as much for retail games.
I don't think there's an existing rss feed we could use for that purpose. Users could help, but they are often ready to help when it's new feature but ends leaving and abandoning it. I don't think it would be possible, even if the idea is nice.

The old scene release box was pretty good for quick user impressions/reviews. Also sometimes I wouldn't have known if a game existed if it wasn't for the release box. Though I understand why it was decided to ditch it. Not once I recall GBAtemp getting official review copies of games when the box was around.
