EDIT: Agh, what a waste of time. It seems that when you write a game using diskwriter, it somehow manages to eat the secondary partition to give itself more space =/ (Read Post #4)

I know this is a really tacky and unorganized thread, but it still gets the point across. You can click the pictures to view a much bigger version.

Ordered two 16GB MicroSD cards alongside my Sky3DS which won't arrive until Thursday, but the SD cards came in today and I can't find the 4GB card I planned on using for my R4i 3DS. So I had the bright idea of: What if I could just create multiple partitions?

As anyone with a Sky3DS knows, once you use Diskwriter with that SD card:

As indicated by Disk 7, the entire SD card's space is reserved for Sky3DS.

So I used EaseUS Partition Master to take some of the unallocated space(must be some weird partition that only Sky3DS can read?) in reserve for my R4 and made it a FAT32 format and marked it as a Primary Partition.

Now for some reason, Windows 7/8/8.1 doesn't read multiple partitions on removable disks

But from this EaseUS screenshot, you can clearly see that the partitions are still there:

Using a program I found called SDMinste(Only 268KB, you can download it here), it can detect multiple partitions on an SD card.

Click Swap Partitions, it does just that, you take the SD card out and then put it back in, and the second partition loads so you can edit that as well

Switching back to Sky3DS's Diskwriter, it still for some reason shows the SD card as having 15GB of available space(and after writing a 1GB rom, it says 14GB space), but it's still able to write the game, so clearly that partition despite being smaller, it can still be read at least somewhat correctly by the diskwriter, so I assume it could read correctly in the Sky3DS too.

So can anyone test this? Leaving the Sky3DS partition as partition #1 and seeing if it still works fine in the Sky3DS and seeing if the R4 looks past the "unallocated space" part and sees the FAT32 partition(that's the main reason I wrote it as primary.

My best guess about how this will work is that, every time you want to change between R4 and Sky3DS, you need to have a computer next to you to switch between the Sky3DS and R4 partitions. While it's still better than nothing, I wouldn't deem a desirable result.

Swapping partitions is more than just a few clicks like what you did. I believe our backup cards only see the first partition.

The only way I can see this working is if every single time you wrote a game to your microsd card, before you write said game, backup your entire R4 partition as it will be overwritten once you do write that game, and then once you're done, recreate the partition and put everything back on it.

Obviously that is still a very undesirable outcome, but it works.

Why not simply get an 8GB card for an R4?
Price for a new small SD card>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Messing around with Partitions and programs

Because I just spent over $120 on two 16GB SD cards, a Sky3DS, and two R4is(One for GF and one for me) and I don't feel like spending any more money nor do I wish to wait for it to come. Messing around with partitions is completely fine. If I could do something as simple as getting an 8GB card, I wouldn't have made this thread.

I suppose that may indeed be the case.

I didn't get ripped off at all. 64GB MicroSD cards are over $30 on Amazon, and I already have a 64GB, and a 32GB Class 10 MicroSD card. The reason why I vouched for two small ones(two 16GBs) is because, do you really want to scroll through 30 games on one card on the Sky3DS with that blue button, or would you rather have them split up?

The deal I got was two 16GB microsd cards and a reader, with free two day shipping for $15.

They are on sale online dude.......I just bought another 32gb samsung mSD for 15 bucks.. The next best thing is coming.

2 = 64gb mSD cards
1 = 32gb mSD card

All within the 20 - 30 dollar range and all legit.

edit: shit if I can use a SSD drive I'd pick up a 250gb ssd thats on sale right now for 89 bucks.

Did you not read what I said, I don't want to use a big SD card for Sky because switching between games and taking 5 seconds each time is already annoying enough. I want my games split between two cards, which is why I went for two 16GB cards, and not one 32GB or one 64GB.

As I stated, you got ripped off. If my prices are 20 - 30 for a 64gb/32gb than the price for a 16gb should be lower than that. Maybe thats not what you getting.

I'm not sure how you're gonna feel about swapping partitions because you can potentially corrupt data, swapping the 2nd partition in front of the 1st, back and forth. these cards were meant to read the 1st, and probably the only partition in there.

You really don't get it. I got free two day tax free shipping on a TWO PACK of Class 4 16GB MicroSD cards + a USB SD reader for a TOTAL of $15 flat. I know that I can get a 32GB card for a little over $20 and I know I can get a 64GB card for a little over $30, because I have both a Class 10 UHS 32GB card as well as the same class of 64GB. The reason why I did not go for 32GB or 64GB is because I wanted my games split between the two so I would not only have one big card to slowly scroll through all of my games.

any local pawn shop

or ask friends/family, check your old mobile phones or whatever, 2gb card would do you fine until you can order one and i would say most people would know someone with a spare 2/4gb SD that they don't need anymore thrown in a draw
