What should we know about 9.6 and what to do when we get Gateway?

Can we play online? Can we do system transfers? Is there a way to update to 9.5 through Emunand?

You can play online (Albeit be careful of updates downloading), but system transfers are a no since they require an updated firmware, and you cannot upgrade to 9.5 as no games have a 9.5 update onboard.

Ah okay

So I have my N3DS on 9.0

What else will I need besides Gateway? Ocarina of Time and a Save Dongle? Does Cube Ninja require a save dongle?

I also want to get a 128 GB Micro SD. I heard read speed is really important here, any particular brand that's recommended?

Cubic Ninja does not require a save dongle. Sandisk and Kingston are the SDs usually recommended, but be careful about buying them online as they are often faked.

So Cube Ninja does not require a save dongle at all. Ocarina of Time requires it one time

Correct?

yes, no, yes, but it's horribly annoying. you;ll need to check all the updated titles on 3dbrew, and then use something like cdntool(? dunno, never used it) to download those titles, and pack them as cia, then install them to emunand.

Your'e better off keeping your emunand on 9.0, since 9.6 isn't doable right now anyway, all 9.5 would do is give you more numbers on your version.

I for one can state that the 'update to 9.5 using CIAs' method *did not work* for my JPN N3DS. Looks like I'm stuck on 9.4 (via majora's mask)

Sorry for hijacking this thread
So I just did the Cubic Ninja exploit, backed up the system nand, boot gateway mode and got "Your Gateway 3DS card must be updated"...I'm pretty new to the gateway scene, and with the 9.6 scare floating around...should I update the gateway card?

You update your gateway via gateway menu. Let it rock.

So I managed to get emunand set up and unlink it from Sysnand today. I made faulty WIFI connections in sysnand and set up a real one in EMU. My question is in EMU it suddenly asked me to enable/disable spotpass. If I disable it, will I stop it from nagging me about the update, since GW doesn't support 9.6? And does Spotpass being disabled have a negative effect on some games? I dont care about the notification updates or whatever else it said, just the games and their features. If disabling it stops downloading of system updates, I can feel a lot more at ease when leaving it with wifi on. Getting the dreaded nag all the time and having to remove it sounds like a hassle.

If disabling spotpass doesn't work/Disables important game features, is there another way to disable the update download without messing with router settings?

Your emunard should be the same as your sysnard, wait for GW to release update to support 9.6 before you update your emunard.

Disabling Spotpass will not prevent nintendo downloading system updates. Right now you need to turn wifi/nfc off on the home menu prior to sleep mode. Be aware that on the go a nintendo zone can connect and download an update even if you have all 3 connections filled.
