Hey guys,

I just installed gw 3.1 on my new 3ds and my n3dsxl but i ran into issues with emunand.
i cant seem to get it working, whenever i format emunand from the gw menu it finishes without error, bit i cant seem to get into it at all. When i go to gateway mode and check the options it just says 9.2.0 without GW3D infront of it.
Multirom menu works

Anyone else have this issue ?

Apparently it works when you use a 4gb microsd card. In truth, it's probably working for you, but there's a glitch that causes GW3D to not show up if you're using a larger memory card (some say starting at 16gb or larger). I was afraid to install 9.5 on my n3ds with my 32gb memory card just in case, but I tried with the 4gb, and it does work. If you want to do a lot of extra work, you can set up emunand on your 4gb card, then use something like USB Image Tools to clone your original 4gb card. You can take that image and transfer it to your larger card, and then use something like EaseUS Partition Master (or whatever you can get to work; the disk manager that comes with Windows won't do it) to extend usable partition to finish filling out your microsd card. It does work, and if you check your firmware, it'll show it was Ver 9.5.XXX. It's a major pain in the ass, but it's better than accidentally losing your <9.2 firmware. I'm getting tired so I hope that made a little bit of sense.

What the guy above said. Also, if you want to make sure it's actually booting into emuNAND, make a folder in Gateway mode and see if it shows up on sysNAND or not, it shouldn't if emuNAND is working. I always do this so I can easily tell the difference without going into System Settings.

Tried doing that myself and now emunand won't boot up on the larger SD card. Any thoughts?

I can confirm it's still booting into EmuNAND, but without the GW. I just updated it, rebooted the system, and I still have a SysNAND of 9.0.1. I'm using an 8GB card.

So even though it didn't say GW you went ahead and updated anyway? That's some big risk there, but if you got it to work, then it should be fine for others too.

I created a folder on each NAND, and verified they didn't appear on the other NAND before updating. Didn't matter much to me anyway; my 3DS is still within its return period, and being from a small country town, there's still a lot of first batch consoles here :).

No. If you format EmuNAND on the 4GB card that comes with the n3ds, it will show up as GW3D 9.0.XXXX. I made an image of that 4gb card and wrote that image to a 32gb card (which preserves the EmuNAND partition and the regular 3ds partition). At that point, you just have to find a way to extended the 3ds partition out to finish filling out the rest of the microsd card. If you don't, both your computer and your 3ds will read it as only being 4gb.

What bache is saying is probably fine. The thing that scared me was that there were people who were speculating that it was dropping back down to sysNAND when you first entered system settings and not after you exit. As far as I can tell, this isn't the case.

I dare say we'll be seeing another update in the coming days to fix quirks like this ;)

and in fact, i can't update emunand, it errors out when updating. i just made a thread about it - i can try to recreate emunand, it could fix it.

if you want to test if you are in emunand or not, make a change - i make the sysnand home menu icons really big.
and the emunand icons really small.
so, it doesn't really matter if the settings shows GW or not :)
so, your emunand is working

The GW3D came up for me on an American n3ds with firmware 9.0 when formatted to emunand on the 4gb micro sd card. I assumed that it will work for other regions and firmwares up to 9.2, but I really have no way of knowing. If you are in doubt, wait for better instructions or a patch from the gateway team. I don't want anyone bricking their new device on my word.

From the looks of it, it's a bug with the GW launcher. For some reason on cards bigger than 4gb, it will bump you into sysnand when you hit system settings from emunand, not after you exit the app. Really weird how that happens.

tldr: Don't update if your fw doesn't say GW in front of it.

hmm... it's really weird.
when i go into my emunand, i go to the settings, i do not see 'GW'.
but i AM in emunand, my home menu is different compared to my sysnand.
BUT - gw does not work... i press select and the multirom menu does not appear...
but i am in GW mode because my retail cart does not show up when i insert it... haha...
maybe i will just recreate emunand to see if this fixes it... (8.1J)

No multirom menu? Yeah that sounds like the best fix is recreating the emunand.

I just figured that the only thing linking people with the problem of not having the GW in front of their FW was them having bigger micro SD cards. That, and I removed the micro SD card while in the system settings of my supposed "emunand" and it kept running. A bug must be making it so that when you hit system settings in emunand, it actually takes you to sysnand system settings instead.

i just used a 4gb micro SD that came with the console, and i can confirm, i now have G3DS in settings.

So yeah must be a bug, gonna try to update and backup the SD and push the IMG to the 16 gb card and see if that works

Edit: cant seem to update, Just boots me back to Sys nand with the error : unable to update an error has occured

Edit2 : nvm, it works. Think wifi was just being a bitch D:

maybe the no 'GW' text (if that settings menu really is the sysnand version) and the 'no multirom menu' are the same bug?
i just redid emunand and still no rom select is showing up... and settings still has no 'GW'.
but it IS in emunand, because as before, my sysnand has diferent sized icons that my emunand... i will send gw an email about the bug :)
maybe if i recreate emunand once again, it could work this time... but i won't retry yet.

Any news on this matter.

When i made my emunand, I made some folders on the start screen spelling EMU. and on my sysNAND I haven't done anything. When I boot into EMUNAND, I see my folders. When entering settings, i don't see the GW3 in front of version number.

Any one heard anything?
