I hope not. It is the best revision of the nintendo 3ds. That would sucks if it has a short life.

Part of me wants there to be a model with c-stick "enhancements", but I'll consult my crystal ball and get back to you.

I don't think this will be a flop for a few reasons.
  1. It has better processing power and improves off of the last console. Meaning, that better games can be made for the system and they're going to be able to really utilize the system
  2. Unlike the DSi that really didn't bring much in terms of revision other than the eshop, the N3DS added components and made a few better
  3. Another big plus is the motion tracking for 3D, which does make games tend to pop out a little more and now it can finally used as it should have been in the beginning
  4. It fixes the lack of the second joystick for some games that really needed it. Not sure how it will be taken by everyone, but I'm sure with practice it will be awesome for some games (I'm looking at you RE:revelations...)
And that's about it. It fixes a lot of the problems the old 3ds had and revised it for the better. Still don't like the whole "No small N3DS for 'Murica because screw you and reasons" part though...But for people like me who always wanted the XL version due to big hands, this will be a very welcomed system that I intend to play the crap out of :D

Of course. And don't mind Nintendo's PR and fanbois. Or those who hope they didn't just waste 200$ for a DSi 2.0

Nintendo always replaces such stop gap consoles very early. Even the Gameboy Color didn't last long until the GBA. And it makes sense.

The New 3DS only improves the 3D and includes the CPP build in. That's it. The improved "processing power" is pure BS. Us developers know pretty well how much improved the "exclusive to the N3DS" games will be...

Nintendo will release a next gen handheld in 2-3 years. Chances are closer to 2. Mobile gaming has become too advanced for them to stay with the outdated New 3DS for much longer. They have made a deal with AMD for a SoC (or two). AMD has ARM SoCs with GCN graphic cores planned for the very near future. Do the math.

It makes absolutely no sense to buy a New 3DS if you already own the original. Unless money is no issue for you, and you don't care paying money for a mostly unneeded upgrade.

Whatever exclusives come up, will be playble on the next gen handheld as well.

Remember when everyone thought a 3DS XL wasn't incoming?

When the original 3DS came out, Nintendo said repeatedly that this model would be final since there is no need to upgrade it. They said so, because most waited for the inevitable "3ds lite", having been burned earlier by Nintendo.

Miyamoto had said in an interview 1 week before the 3ds XL, that the original 3DS is fine and there is no need to change it. 1 week...

A year after the 3DS XL, we got the 2DS...

And now, instead of just waiting a year or two and releasing a next gen handheld, they release 2 "New" 3ds models with exclusive games...

My bet is on a New 2DS as well...

Those people are excellent liars. Even Miyamoto lied personally. Don't tell me he didn't know. As for this interview, google is your friend. It is not exactly hidden...

1. The better processing power is intended for the improved 3d function mostly. It is not sufficient for a reasonably better (in terms of visuals) experience vs the original model. Only Nintendo will release exclusive games for it, and only a few.

2. The Dsi had twice the clock speed and 4 times the RAM than the DS. It was actually a vastly better improvement in terms of processing power vs the New 3DS.

3. It is not that much of a big plus, unless you have Parkinson...

4. The c-stick is a joke. It is not much better than using the touch screen. Expect the next handheld to have a normal analog.

No. I defend the hobby i enjoy from bad industry practices. The thing all gamers should be doing instead of being sheep. Look where being sheep and opening our wallets to everything got us...

You merely adopted the darkness. I was born in it, molded by it. And so on.

Only time will tell, but I remember the Gameboy Color lasting way longer then the DSi did. To be fair, that was back when I was still a wee little babby and had no control over what game systems me and my siblings got.

And for the record, I got my New 3DS for free, so I figured why not, I'm not losing anything.

I don't care where you got your New 3DS. Even if i had been given one for free, my opinion would not change. It is not about the money, i am a working adult and can buy 10 of them for the lulz. It is a matter of principle.

It is an improved model, and i don't mind the improved 3D and the second stick at all. Those are "legal" improvements for a video game console. They don't exclude older owners and they don't defeat the purpose of a video game console.

Exclusive games for a console revision are a big no-no. Games in the same generation should be playble in all revisions of the same console. Period.

If we are to "upgrade" our consoles every couple of years in order to play exclusive games, we might as well get tablets and PCs.

It depends on game sales and with the 2DS 3DS AND N3DS Its should be around at least a couple of years.
Its rumored that they are working on a VR console and if true would be 5 years way.

Like the DSi, it's not a brand new console, just a beefed up 3DS. So the New 3DS belongs in the same life cycle as the 3DS. As for the 3DS's lifecycle, I'd give it another two years. The 3DS just turned four years old and generally Nintendo consoles have a five year lifetime (excluding the DS which had a whopping 8 years.)

I deduce this given the release pattern of recent Mario Kart games. It goes handheld, console, handheld, console, and they release three years apart, and never appear on the same console twice. So logically, based on that pattern, a new Nintendo handheld is due by 2017 for Mario Kart 9.
