Do you think the 3DS hacking scene is at an all time high right now?

With Gateway recently supporting firmware 4.5-9.2, 3DS hacking is becoming as easy as DS hacking was almost a decade ago. It literally brings back memories of the DS hacking scene here on GBATemp that reached an all time high years ago. Your thoughts?

Yeah, but give it a few months once the N3DS releases in America and a solution is coming very soon. This is freaking amazing for regular 3DS users right now

yeah especially the downgrade feature, it was very nice. There's still a few kinks to work out (ex GW 6.x encryption issue, no support for 3dsx) but overall it's pretty good

once n3ds support comes out my life will finally be complete

Did you mean to say "No support for 3DS XL"? Cause Gateway does support 3DS XL

still very boring for n3ds users waiting for GW release

I think you will find soon as we have an EU release for the UK etc.. we might find GW will then release the update for the NN3DS but I'm in no hurry myself cause I wont be buying one until its released here in the UK :) They have be sure for all regions before releasing an update.

I meant the 3dsx file format that's used for ninjhax and homebrew. Maybe there's some way to convert them to .3ds or .cia though, not sure. But it'd be nice if you could put them on SD card and they'd just run

Also i heard homebrew .3ds files don't have sound on GW :(

But these are all just little inconveniences IMO, as long as i can play roms and do some homebrew coding, all is good

well tbh i don't think the 3ds scene will be "as good"ad the nds scene. Mainly because the homebrew. The nds had more developers which released a lot of nice homebrew. And somehow i don't see that much great homebrew being released in the 3d scene.

Well I think down the road this year, the Gateway team will do something as far as the homebrew. They are certainly on top of it and I really applaud them for doing something for us that we've been waiting nearly four years for us to have a proper 3DS flashcart

Yeah that is definitely true. And i am happy to see that more homebrew is coming. And i would love to be proven wrong:P

p.s
but its gonna be hard to beat this list of homebrew:

All Time High? Nah, I think it'll keep growing. People are only just now really cracking open the 3DS. We still don't know the full potential of the console, cheats and rom translations are in their infancy, New 3DS isn't even released in North America (Or publicly "hacked" to a reasonable degree) More 3DS owners will likely appear over time, hopefully meaning more interest in developing homebrew and exploits. So while I will agree that the scene has expanded greatly in recent history there's still a long way to go before the all time high.

EDIT: Also, still no Nethack. Wake me up when there's a nethack clone for 3DS.

I think Nintendo is gaining some interest from homebrew developers with the New 3DS. It literally took four years just for the 3DS to be properly hacked. Can you believe it? People couldn't properly hack the 3DS for a long time. I wonder why

Literally never saw downgrade support coming. Ever. N3DS support will be interesting too since it will bring some sort of offline to newer firmwares.

So 4 years in (what is the projected lifetime? It is surely past the halfway mark now), a pitiful library of games for said 4 years, not much homebrew potential (any number of more powerful and easy to program devices), some middle of the road hacks and facing a lack of homebrew devs (many had evaporated before the DS was done).

To be fair, when Wii hacking was getting started it had a bit of a bumpy start. I think we'll get some good stuff eventually though.

^pretty much this. Also If you consider that the New 3DS is the *new* DSi, the 3DS community or interest is not going to grow further.

When Gateway releases support for North American and European N3DS, does that mean regular 3ds's with >9.2 will be supported too? I'm considering getting gateway.
