I didn't installed Pokemon Alpha Sapphire latest update before 9.3, so I want to enter MT-Card EmuNand to download it to the eShop, and then rollback to my 9.2 sysNand.

Is this possible or will it work? I know is stored on the SD, so I plan to backup my card before rollback to still get my update data.

Thanks in advance.

You can install the eshop updates as .cia files on sysnand but that's apparently 'dangerous' though if you have a nand backup and a nand mod, danger doesn't apply to you really... However, things downloaded/added in emunand stay in emunand and don't bleed into sysnand.

*edit: The guy above seems awfully sure, maybe I should check my statement? Guess you have to wait for more clarity

Yes, this will work provided your NANDs are linked. If you unlinked them you are shit out of luck. If they are linked, that means you share the same ticket and can load the same saves/eshop content. So you can buy on 9.4, and play on both 9.2 and 9.4. I don't see why you'd want to do that (roll back to 9.2 sysnand instead of just playing on 9.4 emunand), as emunand is more than capable.

If you unlinked your NANDs (which would probably be why you want to buy on 9.4 and play on 9.2), then you can't. Content on 9.4 will be bought/installed with that ticket, and 9.2 will be separate. Which means you'd have to install the update using your 9.2 sysnand if that's what you are going to play on.

I think OP wants to go online via emuNAND to get updates for their retail Pokemon game and you can't play retail on emuNAND.

Classic mode is for playing physical retail games, emuNAND is for e-Shop and you can play games off your Gateway there. For some reason retail cartridges don't show up in emuNAND.

Classic mode is still emunand. At least, my set up is. I think you are talking about gateway mode. I don't own a gateway, but I'm guessing that's also emunand, just with a different launcher. There's no point in playing retail games on sysnand, since it should be at 4.X.

But OP can't have 4.X sysNAND because they'll lose their retail save file as it was created on the new encryption type.

Version 2.0b1 (2013-12-01)
"We have also included an option to boot into Classic mode that enables genuine retail gamecards and the emuNAND functionality, allowing it to run like a regular 3DS on latest firmware."

Before this update you couldn't even play retail cartridges on a system running a Gateway.

Right. But the point of emunand is to play on 9.4 and have your retail stuff (6.0 saves excluded) while you are on sysnand 4.X or 9.2.

Now I'm confused. Couldn't you just literally take out the gateway card and use your 3DS as it was? I'm pretty sure that update is exactly what I just said. Lets you play 'retail carts' by emulating the later 9.4 update. Since you can't play them on 4.5, gateway or not. So you stay on 4.5 and use emunand to play your retail games that require a newer firmware.

If you were just on 4.5, you wouldn't be able to play them regardless. That's not gateway's fault. "Gateway mode" then either boots into emunand or perhaps just the sysnand, and lets you access that stuff.

Again, I don't see why you'd AVOID playing on emunand with your retail stuff, seeing as that's the entire point of it. Classic mode boots the emunand into a way that allows you to play your retail carts (and the 2.0 update allows you to use 6.0 saves IIRC). But it's still emunand AFAIK.

Retail Pokemon games started on 6.X+ sysNAND still get corrupted in classic mode if your system is on 4.X because on system boot your system loads whatever encryption keys your sysNAND is using and they get applied to Gatway's Classic mode.

Really? I know that happened for the old gateway classic mode, but I thought that the new one (where you NEED a gateway card) fixed that problem?

Only if you're running a 6.X.+ sysNAND when you run the browser exploit. It loads the newer keys from your sysNAND for classic mode and "fixes" it for the newer retail games.

Hopefully Gateway will come up with either an offline method to load Gateway on 6.X+ firmware or incorporate the newer keys into their exploit.

Oh. I was under the impression the reason that gateway's card is required for classic mode above a certain version was because they fixed that problem.

My 9.2 sysNAND and 9.4 emuNAND are linked. I went on the themes shop in emuNAND and bought the Slowpoke theme, and now it's available in both sysNAND and emuNAND. So I'm pretty sure if you install a game update via the eShop it should apply to your sysNAND, too, since it'll install to the same place in both.

For now I'm keeping my NANDs linked so I can still play all my retail carts outside of emuNAND with everything intact (for example, Pokemon X/Y's friend safari) which would be messed up in an unlinked sysNAND (since it's like playing your cart on someone else's 3DS). The annoyance of having to unwrap CIAs and having to reapply my theme aren't bothersome enough for me to want to neuter my sysNAND.

And that should work for now. The problems will arise as the current firmware gets higher and more games require it. Unless GW comes up with a new exploit you will eventually have to play new retail carts under classic mode emunand otherwise they will update your sysnand FW.

I think some people get confused about the importance of emunand becuase there are no carts yet with 9.4 on them. It will happen.

You're correct. Classic Mode is for playing retail games, Gateway Mode is for ROM loading. Both however are emuNAND.

* Wow. I guess this paragraph you quoted was supposed to prove that Classic Mode is not emuNAND, when in fact it proves the complete opposite.
** Uhhh what now? You haven't got a clue as to what you're talking about do you? Before emuNAND you still booted into Gateway Mode via the ds profile exploit. Gateway Mode was simply sysNAND with patches to allow ROM loading via the gateway red card. If you wanted to play cartridge you simply stayed in sysNAND.

I'm confused. Couldn't you just literally take out the gateway card and use your 3DS as it was? I'm pretty sure that update is exactly what I just said. Once again you're right on the money. The guy with no flashcard has a considerably better understanding of how Gateway works than the Gateway user.
