Last month, AMD revealed that they had created a new processor for an upcoming video game console that is scheduled for release in 2016. Most of us are expecting this to be the next Nintendo console — AMD is a long-time Nintendo partner who supplied hardware for both the Wii and Wii U.
Made me think and wonder if it was a good idea to kill the Wii u so soon rather than waiting and releasing a successor later
on. Either way Nintendo needs to make it with no dumb gimmicks and a specs that are reasonable

Nintendo is just now in the beginning stages exploring a new console

1 year - Design and hardware commitments
1 year - Creating a SDK based on said hardware
1 year - Game development for release

2018...

Kinda made me think about how rumors of ps4 started when the ps3 came out and they said it wouldn't happen until 10 or later

I like my "gimmicks" thank you very much. Also 2018 is OK but why not shoot for 2020 just for shits and giggles? Can you imagine the marketing behind a 2020 date?!

2020? By then we will also be dead!!!

Anyway 20/20 would be stretching it considering that it would be 8 years without a new console compared to the standard 6 years

No, Wii U is a great console with awesome titles.
i own nearly all games and every one of them is good.
games go relatively cheap also.
I wish people started playing games instead of watching reviews and comparing it to other consoles and even to PC.

Nintendo has a potential system, shame advertising was badly excecuted.
In the hand of a good dev, the system is very powerfull graphic wise, though that is not the most imtant part.
Nintendo still amazes me with it's released titles and it's visions in gameplay.
Smiling kids , adults playing their games is proof of that.
The Wii u software has come along way now also, the system is fast smooth and very intuitive to handle.
Having all the control options at hand is a big plus, video chat, Free nintendo and acces to multiplayer gaming is a big plus.
Also the fact you are getting a Wii to boot ( wich is softmoddable out of the box ) off screen tv gameplay (most of the titles) is also neat.

Overall the friendly approach and vision wich is Nintendo trademark, makes the Wii U this gens console winner for me.
Having a ps4 with almost no games worth to boot and not willing to spend 50 euro to get proper online acces, and lack of interest in Xbone for the same reasons.

Wii U is really a great system, and I haven't even started about the great eshop library and it's titles,

So NO a new console is FaaAAAR to soon InMhO.

Don't follow the masses follow your heart, ninty please keep this up, I am enjoying it far to much!

Two extra years wont kill anyone. Besides PS3/360 are ten years and STILL going.
I know and ps2 lived till 14. But I find generally a console has 6 years of main support and then 2 to 4 years of limited support(meaning that games are generally being promoted for there successor)

Wii U is better than the N64 (in terms of games) but slightly worse when compared to the GameCube (not that great in variety of games and franchises) and definitely inferior to SNES (I call it 'Snezz' lol) as in, in its games.

The catalogue of Wii U games worth owning is very selective and without much third party support which limits it even more.

It also doesn't help that the fucking GamePad is the main controller for games that don't even need it as those said games can work with a traditional controller (i.e, Wii U Pro Controller).

Gamepad is like the wiimote in it has great functions for certain games but not so good for traditional games yet said traditional games either lack support for other controllers or have gamepad as primary

It's nintendo fanboy speculation. Retarded speculation. Not only is this way too soon on the lifecycle, nintendo would certainly have made an announcement if they had a wiiu follow-up.

My guess would be that those chips are for one of the many steamOS consoles. And if it's not that, then it may also be a nintendo complementary console (that quality of life thing we haven't heard anything from, yet).

In answer to the...frankly quite dumb question of the OP: yes, it's too soon.

Yes I agree it is too soon BUT the idea and practice of killing off consoles relatively short into their life spans isn't that uncommon (5200 and saturn)

Great story bruv!, I agree totally with you. I have a WiiU and an XboxOne and tbh the XboxOne sucks and sits in its box with Dead Rising 3, which yes also sucks but the WiiU I seem to always play the most and I do agree, mainly it is the first party games that are the best but what the hell, there great fun and a great console to boot. PS4 just sucks I would never buy one after forcking out enough back in the days of the PS3, the games were like just so annoying, hard and plain bollocks tbh so I would never buy a PS again, just a shame the next Silent Hill game is a PS4 exclusive cause they are the only PS games I do like, just hope it does port to the XboxOne eventually then I can get it back out the box!!! Thanks for the WiiU love though, I'm feelin it

Edit: sorry I forgot, no I certainly don't want a next gen Nintendo console just yet, I would feel just a tad robbed if they did that!

Just to get back to that sentence of Mr. Hielkenator:

i own nearly all games and every one of them is good.
All games are good? Seriously?
