Yeah, I'm beginning to give up on the hope of getting an "original series" 3D Mario game this generation. Which annoys me so profoundly because Nintendo seems more than happy to push out 4 and a half 2D Mario clones, along with a shit heap of other 2D platformers.

Not surprising given the release schedule of this year.

I'm still hoping there will be one more Mario title for the Wii U generation although things aren't looking great.

I think most fans would rather see metroid than mario in 2016. 3D world was an excellent game IMO so oh well.

There's still 2016-2018 because the Wii U won't be discontinued until then.

But in 2015 there's still quite a chink of Mario spin-off games:
1) Mario Maker
2) Mario Part 10
3) Mario Vs. Donkey Kong
4) Mario Kart 8 DLC 2

So it's not like they won't have more Mario shit out this year too.

I...don't get it. Bill Trinen is director of product marketing of NoA...surely he must know about the games Wiicube mentions. So why the hell does he make that claim?
(or is this an accidental slip that all those titles are going to be delayed to next year?)

If this is just about non-spin offs...then I'm giving a slow clap to anime news network. Good going, guys. Hats of to ya. I mean, really...it really is news if nintendo is NOT releasing a mario game on any given year. :(

He does talk about Mario Maker later on in the interview, so I'm very positive he means a mainline Super Mario game.

I think "new" in this case means unannounced. So basically what we already know of is all we're getting in terms of Mario games this year.

Why? Mario (in my opinion) is the best video game franchise.

Because in everyone else's opinion creativity and originality ran out and the franchise is milked way too much in recent history.

C'mon...be serious. It's debatable whether or not it's the best franchise, but even if it is, it's not a good idea to keep pushing roughly the same idea every freakin' time. Give them a break and focus on something else. That time spent elsewhere will give them some time to think up something more creative in the future.

This.

The last we want is Mario to turn into Sonic. :ohnoes:

This.

But if Nintendo were to release a new Mario game then I'd like it to be an HD remastered version of Sunshine or 64 (although there's fans doing it but Nintendo will probably take it down or so).

I think Super Mario 64 has had its chance already, it was after all released for the Wii Virtual Console (emphasis on Wii since Nintendo can't figure out how to make a Nintendo 64 emulator work on the Wii U). And HD remastered version of Super Mario Sunshine would be very welcome, though unless Nintendo makes a new controller with analog triggers I don't believe they'll make that. :(
