I have a pretty good handle on the abilities of Sky3ds and have successfully run some games without issue (some with online issues, 1 not booting). Trust me, I've tried google, but I'm having trouble finding some information. I really think Sky3ds should update their FAQ section... updated to reflect what I've found since testing with Diskwriter 1.05 and template1219.txt

1. Is there any way for DiskWriter to update the header on a rom already on the microsd or are you required to delete/rewrite the rom using a new template. (i.e. using an older or newer template to fix a game without reloading) Still don't know. But I'm archiving my roms on hdd just in case.

2. I'm assuming multiple roms on the sd can have headers from different templates. Is this correct? Same as #1.

3. *edit* DiskWriter 1.05 now displays the game name automatically

4. If a game is deleted from the card, is the save deleted along with it? Yes, the save is deleted. You'll need to back up your save if you want to be able to use it in the future.

I appreciate any help. That said, I promise to accept all flame with the utmost and sincere grace and dignity =] But seriously, I did search the forums and google first.

I'm curious about the region locking of the Sky3DS. I've heard that it locks to whatever region the first rom is. Is this true? Can you not switch to another region later? So if I play an E rom on my PAL N3DS, am I not going to be able to play a U rom on my USA 3DS?

That would only affect someone who has mutliple 3ds consoles from different regions. That can't be too common. But for someone like yourself, I imagine it is an important question. I can't test this, sorry.

3. Is there any way to display the games actual name in Diskwriter? Are we stuck trying to identify games as CTR-P-XXXX? (I actually haven't got a clue which title ID goes to what)

1.You could start making a list of games you have by installing games 1 by 1 and writing down the title ID that the game has for example copy a game write down in notepad the game title and ID delete the game from the sd card then go on with the next game.

2. test the save features yourself. Install a known working game like Pokemon X/Y save your game. Backup the save using the disk writer(i'm pretty sure it has that ability). Delete the game. Re-Install the game without copying the save data back. Start the game up, Is your save game there? if not the it does in fact erase the save file when erasing a game

Im a new owner and i havent had an issue with it...... I was able to update the games and go online.

I hate the Cart name thing, but if you google the cart name, the CTR=P number it will tell you what the game is.

Ah, very good input. Thanks. I will indeed start tracking titles as I add them. I will also test out your suggestion about the saves. Will be a bit as I'm currently in the process of formatting the sd and acquiring\reinstalling the games now. It's not a fast process :(

For information sake, I find it a bummer you can't backup or transfer the roms back to your pc. I mean you can, but it seems to want to lump everything together and save it to your HDD rather than in individual roms. I made the mistake of deleting all the roms from my hdd thinking the transfers could go both ways. I was mistaken  But like I said, I think Sky3ds should update their FAQ. Individual games can be backed up in Diskwriter 1.05 and possibly earlier. A version I was using didn't have the option.

Awesome, thanks Ralph.

When you say you were able to update the games, you mean that when you went to install it, it updated it for you automatically from the template file right? My main problem though, specifically, is Mario Kart 7 did not want to go online and one other game (can't remember which) wouldn't boot at all. My understanding is this is because of a bad header being used in one of the templates. Like I stated earlier, I deleted my roms from my hdd and my attempt at backing up the roms resulted in a huge backup file rather than individual rom files. It would be nice to be able to inject a new header from a different template directly to the rom sitting on the microsd because my only other recourse is to DL another rom.

It very well may be that I'm just being dense and not seeing something obvious.

Weird. didn't have any problems with mario kart 7. Maybe make sure it's version 1.1?

It was indeed version 1.1.

Something else may have been going on. But my thinking is it was the template I used at fault.

Crazy, seems like Sky3ds just released a new DiskWriter for me to try out. 1.05

*edit* Woot! I wonder if they're reading this, lol! They just added the game name into DiskWriter

I used the latest template for all the roms I installed and that included Mario Kart 7. It prompted me to update it and it did so just fine. Im a new owner too and just learning the ropes. You could possibly try to upload the same game each with a different template and see if you get different results.

I dont know much about roms... but yeah, you could possibly try to upload the game with the game header off a different template.. just select a new template when you write the rom.

Personally, I don't think that's even an issue for me. I would hate to have to cycle through 30+ games to get to the one I want. In fact, I'm thinking of only keeping <5 on at a time for this reason. Haven't decided for sure.
