First Captain Toad and now Kirby. GoNintendo is reporting that the next Kirby game for Wii U might be 40 dollars. I think this is the right path for the Wii U. Hell, we should be at a point where PS/360 level games can be made and sold at the 40-50 dollar range. I could see Nintendo selling their games at 40 USD save for one or two major releases, usually in the spring and in the holiday season. What do you guys think?

I welcome cheaper prices for games. If it means games for the Wii U in general go a little bit down in price then the more the merrier. I have both Captain Toad and Kirby on pre-order. :)

Looking at the trailer it seems highly likely to be a $40 game (while after launch it could increase as it's usually the case for Nintendo games).

I loathe games which are GamePad-only but even worse when all of it is on the GamePad's screen not making use of the TV itself but hey, if it'll cost $40/£25 then I'm willing to pre-order it.
Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth was another GamePad screen-only game, shame because it'd possibly have been fun with a traditional controller and playing it on the TV instead.

They both come off as pseudo-digital games anyway so I think it's in the right range. Not gimped or small enough to be considered a digital download only game, not large enough to warrant a full price tag.

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker feels like DLC content for Mario 3D World and Kirby's Rainbow Curse an eShop Digital Game, so you're certainly right.

Nintendo knows there's people willing to buy it so that's pretty much it.

I'm honestly surprised Triple Deluxe didn't come to the Wii U and this game to the 3DS, considering it's a sequel to Canvas Curse / Power Paintbrush / Touch! Kirby... (And those names are awful.)

You'd be just looking down at the GamePad to play this game. Unlike Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, you don't really gain from having other people watch you play. A waste of an HD console connected to a big TV, IMO. :(

Hold on a minute here. Your telling me they are releasing Gamepad Only titles ? Why'? If they don't want the game on a TV why not just put on the 3DS. Are they expicitly clear about this?

Sure you can play on the TV but the entire gameplay is based on the GamePad and so all your focus is on the GamePad itself. I think it'll be very distracting and difficult to keep up with the game without looking down at the GamePad to do it properly.

This game should've been released for the 3DS not the Wii U.

Well anyway, just watch this as it's very informative:

If done properly, this game may be a good multiplayer game. However that's a big if, but it'd be a way to show the capabilities of the Wii U for asymmetric gameplay. As we know, only player 1 controls Kirby using the Wii U GamePad, while players 2-4 control Waddle Dees in a more traditional way using regular controllers. However, my problem with that is limiting the single player experience to just the Wii U GamePad. As I said, Triple Deluxe would've been a far better fit for the Wii U (even though it's one of the few games to actually make use of the 3D on the 3DS) and this game a better fit for the 3DS. Especially so considering the prequel to this game was on the original DS.

My problem with Kirby is also how little the series has developed itself since the first game. You can easily tell from the Kirby's Dream Collection suite of games (which was never released in Europe) that Kirby has always been a 2D title. The best Kirby game so far IMO came out on the Wii, Kirby's Return to Dreamland (in the US) / Kirby's Adventure Wii (in Europe). But even that is more of a New Super Mario Bros. meets Kirby kind of game. I still long for a true 3D Kirby. Yet this new game for the Wii U pretty much tells us that Nintendo (or Miyamoto) doesn't care about Kirby. :(

New footage:

What do you think? I'm kinda 50/50 on this one. Looks super fun, but again, I don't see the point as you practically have to keep your eyes glued to the GamePad. :(

The game sure looks like fun but having to always look at the GamePad kills the mood of playing on a home console, plus, let's not forget that it's an HD console and the GamePad's standard definition so this is really backwards of Nintendo to be doing. I'll say it again, this game should have been on the 3DS not the damned Wii U!

Mario Vs Donkey Kong is looking to be another GamePad game though I can't figure if that's going to be an actual physical Wii U game because it looks more like an eShop title and very budget-y.

What caught my eye in the video was the 2-player segment at the end. How was that achieved? Unfortunately I don't speak Japanese so I can't read what's written on the screen.

Then it hit me: could the game support the Wiimote? Think "Ivy the Kiwi" on the Wii. Similar idea, just different gameplay. Unless of course Nintendo's going to debut support for two GamePads... (highly unlikely.)

Kotaku posted an article about Kirby and despite being a load of crap, there's one rewarding aspect of it; The Japanese trailer shows how much it'll cost in Japan.

Converting 3,700 Yens to Pounds it's £19 and Dollar's is $30 so it's goes even below the standard budget price of $40.

The game sure looks like fun and it it's at the very least £25 then I'll bite it, but yeah, damn shame that Player 1 will be stuck to play on the GamePad without enjoying the wonderful HD crayon visuals.

Isn't it usually like 4900 yen = 50$ though, kind of like how they always do $=€? Or do they actually directly convert it?

I just used XE for the conversion and that's what came up.

The soundtrack selection in this game has got me interested so if the price is right then I'll get it day one too.

Edit: This seems to be the official American cover (identical to the Japanese) it's so pretty!
