Hey guys, last thread sorry but just wondering if you import an aussie 3DS XL, how do you configure to be able to buy stuff from eshop etc.?

On my last 3DS XL 4.5, I never registered the console/used eshop so I'm guessing theres no need to import.

Also my save game data isn't really important to me once I've completed a game so thats alright too.

well just enter the eshop and it will become clear i guess.

but I assume you bought this n3ds to use with gateway? in that case stay out of the eshop, it will force you to update

i meant when i'm in emunand .. if the n3ds has emunand. if it doesn't, i might need to return it as playing online and patches are pretty necessary imo.

I am surethat they will find something about that (i think n3ds is going to have emunand), but just opening the eshop and youll be set (after setting the internet connection of course). there is an option in your eshop to add money to your eshop account, this can be done by creditcard or a prepaidcard thing.

No it's not. No handhelds are PAL (unless it has a TV out or something). None are NTSC either (save for the same caveat).

You are wrong. Australia is a Pal region, as with with their TV system. So anything released there will be PAL, so the 3DS will be a PAL region locked console (Europe E-Shop), as with every other European country in the world.

So in theory it is still a pal console regardless if it not connecting to a TV.

The PAL region (PAL being short for Phase Alternating Line) is a television publication territory that covers most of Asia, Africa, Europe and Oceania. It is so named because of the PAL television standard traditionally used in those regions, as opposed to the NTSC standard traditionally used in Japan and the United States, which both produce a large portion of the world's televisions.

NTSC NTSC, named after the National Television System Committee,[1] is the analog television system that was used in most of the Americas (except Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay and French Guiana); Burma;South Korea; Taiwan; Japan; the Philippines; and some Pacific island nations and territories

If anyone is using PAL and NTSC to differentiate between regions on 3DS they are using incorrect terminology, although I believe Australia does use PAL for its TV systems, the Australian 3DS does not connect to a TV so its irrelevant. Its like saying an iPhone bought in Australia is PAL.

Listen up, Retrofan and Mech. The PAL region is a group of places. PAL itself is a technology standard. Nintendo simply chose to use the same region grouping for the 3DS and Wii U. The Wii U uses the PAL standard, but the PAL region 3DS uses a propriety region locking system with the same regional grouping, so Nintendo correctly refers to it as PAL region. You will not see them referring to it as PAL.

what you are saying is like everyone saying AUS N3DS instead of EUR because it is a EUR release, either way who gives a flying fuck.

Stores will always refer to systems as PAL and NTSC to tell the difference for end users. It's technically not PAL, but end users have been looking at games with PAL and NTSC listings for years.

Gameboy, GB Advance, DS didn't have any of this because they were region free.. they're portable. Which stops all confusion. Nintendo should never of locked the damn 3DS in the first place.

They're wrong. Did you read the difference between PAL and PAL region that I took the time to explain perfectly for you?

Yes it is. Obviously.

I don't know what that means. That's definitely not what I'm saying. I thought my post was as clear as it could be.
either way who gives a flying fuck.
I would have expected a response more like:
"Oh, thanks for explaining it to be. I didn't pick up on the subtle distinction between the terms "PAL" and "PAL region".

I have just got my new 3ds from 365, One tiny imperfection on top screen which is annoying, (think its on the lens not the actual screen,
As for importing a aus pal unit, go for it, they come on firmware 9.0e and you select your region ie uk. from the menu.

creating a nin is just a case of signing up and saying you live in the uk really. nothing more to add apart from the auto brightness sucks (turn it off in settings) and that if you already have a xl and dont move alot when gaming then I dont think is worth the upgrade currently

Having said all that if you move when gaming then the 3d effect head tracking is best in class.

i know the difference but it will always be PAL and NTSC, no matter how much you want to say it.

If it doesn't conform to PAL or NTSC signal guidelines then it's not PAL or NTSC, it's really that simple. Is it released in a PAL territory? Yes. Is it a PAL device? No, it's not. With handhelds, EUR, US/A, JAP, KOR and sometimes additional region designations are used. Saying that a handheld is PAL or NTSC is a misnomer aside from a couple exceptions, for instance the SEGA Nomad which has a TV Out and as such it conforms to a TV standard. Pick up a Nintendo 3DS box and show me where does it say that it's a PAL/NTSC device? Hint: it doesn't say that anywhere because it's not a PAL/NTSC device - it doesn't have to be, it doesn't have to be connected to a television. Territory of release has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not a device is PAL/NTSC.

see my post above.
Except your post above is false. Take your time and look at a 3DS box, or even flip through the hefty instruction booklet that comes with the system. Nowhere in the entire thing will you find one reference to PAL or NTSC. Even the back of a 3DS has the correct region designation, in my case EUR. It doesn't say PAL because it's not PAL.

People say that those systems are PAL/NTSC because it's easier to understand for the technologically-illiterate, but that doesn't make them PAL/NTSC.
