A group of French designers by the name of Cicret are seeking funding to develop a bracelet that can project the image from you smart phone, essentially turning your arm into a tablet.

It will feature an embedded memory card, processor, accelerometer, micro USB port, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. But the key part is the so-called "pico-projector" and an array of proximity sensors. The pico projector projects the interface onto your arm. When you put your finger on the interface, you stop one of eight proximity sensors. The sensor sends the information back to the processor in your Cicret bracelet.

the thing being quoted said:
Cicret co-founder, Guillaume Pommier, told Gizmag that the company expects to have the bracelet, conceived a year ago and designed over the course of six months, on the market in about 18 months, with a price tag of up to $400. The first prototype should be ready by late December.

Seems like some pretty futuristic stuff. How do you think it will impact the way we live? Where do you feel we will go from here? What kind of effect do you think this will have on us as a society, as we're becoming more and more overtaken by technology? And more importantly, how will this effect mobile gaming?

I see two problems with this, first is your arm is not a flat surface, I can see the contours of my bones a bit down my arm. Second is, wouldn't your finger obstruct the pico projectors image so it will be a shadow from wherever your finger is touching and the whole way for the rest of the projected image?

This would be useful if it was running Android Wear and not full on, stock Android. Aside from that, this could help usher in a wave of cheaper Android Wear devices.

So i assume we're all going to ignore the fact that the entire video is made with CGI?

I also assume people are idiots and are already pouring copious ammounts of money funding something that promises a Playstation 4 but will produce (If anything at all) a commodore 64?

I too can create a completely CGI concept video for a cool device! I can also post it on youtube, spread it around enough to make it go viral and then ask for funding! When they get the funding, They'll have scammed enough people that they can create enough "outs" with the money to avoid any backlash about the project. Stupid people will fund anything waved in front of their eyes without thinking it through. Hell, the Potato salad kickstarter ended up making thousands right? Stupid people ate that shit up. (pun intended)

Stupid people wasting their money isn't anything new. Its been happening since they invented money, I imagine.

i see this only useful for woman. us men have very hairy arms

So? Perhaps the screen won't be as readable, but since the tracking is done on the side, that won't matter.

What will matter, though, is that since that projecting is done from the side, putting your finger on it means it'll partially project the image on said finger rather than on your arm (it'll give a shadow effect). I'm also skeptic on the finger tracking...I really want to see a proof of concept on that before passing judgment (because if it does...won't that potentially make touchscreens obsolete?).

I have bones and veins and a bit of hair on that part of my arm. It's not large and flat and neat like on the picture!
I could never use a product like this...
I like the originality though

Pfft, the tablet stuff is easy. The hard part is making it look manly and/or fashionable enough for people to want to wear.

Good luck on that one, guys.
