Everyone's been *saying* this. But nobody's actually analyzed it to find out whether it's a 1 for 1 copy or whether it uses an exploit, right?

I'd be surprised if Nintendo hadn't experimented with one to see how it works. I'd say the fact that it still works in 9.4 (two versions after it was released) is pretty good evidence that it doesn't use an exploit.

I'm curious how Sky3DS handles the cartridge unique ID. If it's like FFFFF... Nintendo could fix it by checking for that.

Right, the fact that it hasn't been patched *yet* proves that it doesn't use an exploit.
Sound logic there skippy.

Anyway, as others have said - just because its not been found out doesn't prove a thing.
Odds of the card working without any exploit or trick at all is rather unlikely.
It is far more probable that it uses some method that is harder to detect and/or block with the way current games are designed.

Yeah. Nintendo is probably much more worried about Gateway on the New 3DS.
Sky3DS might be so easier to block they haven't bothered putting efforts into it yet.

People have seen how it looks like/communicate with the 3DS. It appears to work like a card replica, but it's not perfect.
So far, to the 3DS, it's 1:1.

Sure?
Topic is: No warez (including flashcard talk)/sdk/leaks

It's just there people talk about it all the time.

Code:
Dec 12 23:40:09 <duo8> neimod how easy it is to patch? do they have to redo the gamecard system or just patch some bugs?
Dec 12 23:40:19 ---» calc84 ([email protected]) has Joined #3dsdev
Dec 12 23:40:20 <neimod> very easy
Dec 12 23:40:31 <Jdbye> i wouldn't say that, since ninjhax is already patched
Dec 12 23:40:31 <neimod> like 1 line of code
Dec 12 23:41:04 <duo8> oh so it's an exploit sky used??
Dec 12 23:41:11 <neimod> no
Dec 12 23:41:25 <duo8> a loophole?
Dec 12 23:41:35 <neimod> nope
Dec 12 23:42:13 <duo8> so it's an imperfection in the card emulation?
Dec 12 23:42:18 <DarkKaine> of course it is
Dec 12 23:42:54 <neimod> it doesn't behave like a genuine gamecard

if Nintendo want to patch this , they need to patch every 3DS game . and then release a new update to handle all this patchs

No, they don't. It's imperfect emulation, so Nintendo can just check for that in an update and not run it if it fails all the checks.

And htat's what happens when there isn't a exploit present to remind your system he's dealing with a genuine cart that can change games :=)

So why Nintendo didn't already patched the firm to detect Sky3DS ?
That's a minor nuisance. Once they block Sky3DS, it's gone for good. People will have to update their consoles to be able to install game updates.
They must be working hard to find out what Gateway is using though. Emunand is a serious problem for them.

It's not using an exploit, as in, it's an actual card emulator.
In theory it can be "patched" based on different factors, such as the variation/differentiation between a genuine card authentication (ID, key exchange...) against the flashcard's.
While I didn't look into card authentication very much, it seems very likely that all these flashcards do have a slightly different behavior from a genuine one, or at least elements that could be used to identify those, that said, some of the card authentication is performed through hardware (mostly to actually prevent the cloning of a genuine card), while I have no idea as to whether or not the code running on this particular hardware can be updated, it seems somewhat obvious that the flashcards can be identified (to some degree) from FIRM anyway.

Whether or not Nintendo will bother to block these cards is also another matter entirely.
