Someone asked me to write how I fixed this so I thought I'd post it in a new thread.

Ok here's the short of what I did so this is for Wii U/vWii!
I am not responsible for any errors or you bricking your Wii/WiiU/vWii.
Error 162-3006 Wii U/vWii

Have you soft modded your Wii U/vWii only you know!

Try 1
This is what Nintendo UK told me next.
I was told to remove the battery on the back of the Wii U gamepad, remove the power to the router & the Wii U all for 20 min.
After 20 mins put it all back together & back on.

Try 2
This is what Nintendo UK told me.

It may be possible to rectify the issue by changing various settings on your broadband router (please contact your ISP so they can configure the settings for you if you are not able to); Firstly we recommend using channels 1, 6 or 11 for best compatibility with your console. If your router has 'channel hopping' enabled please be advised that this should be disabled. The security type of the router should also be set to WPA2-PSK-AES.

Once the suggested amendments have been made we recommend unplugging the router from the mains power plug for 2 minutes or so, and reconnecting to the mains power so that the router is refreshed.

Try 3

This is what Nintendo UK sent me
We believe that this problem can be resolved by performing a manual set up for your network on your console. We have provided you with a step by step guide below:
  1. Go into Internet Settings on the Wii U.
  2. Select “Connect to the Internet”.
  3. Select “Connection Type”.
  4. Select "Manual Configuration".
  5. Input SSID (router/network name).
  6. Input the correct security type as “WPA2-PSK-AES”.
  7. Enter your password.
  8. Set the IP address to "Do not auto obtain".
  9. Enter the IP address - "192.168.0.64".
  10. Enter the subnet mask – “255.255.255.0”.
  11. Enter the default gateway - “192.168.0.1”.
    1. Confirm these settings
  1. Select to configure the DNS settings and select "Do not auto obtain".
  2. Enter Primary DNS server - “194.168.4.100”.
  3. Enter Secondary DNS server - “194.168.8.100”.
    1. Confirm these settings
  1. When prompted to set a proxy server, select “Don’t Configure”.
  2. 13. Leave the MTU value as the default (1500).
  3. Save settings and perform connection test.

If none of those work then you must have soft modded your Wii U/vWii
The problem is your Wii U is trying to update it's system files, mine downloaded the update fine but when installing would just shoot to the end of the loading bar & give me the error.
So whats stopping it is that somewhere on your soft modding travels you've patched an IOS you shouldn't have, & thats stopping Nintendo from overwriting it to update your system.

So......

1. Use Syscheck 2 ( https://code.google.com/p/syscheck/d...9.zip&can=2&q= ) the new version didn't work for me no idea why so I was told to use this one which worked fine.
Go here to see how to use it http://www.hacksden.com/showthread.php/505-GUIDE-How-to-use-sysCheck-posting-an-IOS-report

2.Here's my result

Report generated on 2014/11/26.

See that 'IOS15 (rev 257): Trucha Bug ES Identify Flash Access NAND Access' that means IOS15 has been patched and it shouldn't be!
So if your getting anything like this on anything else below IOS200 I'd aim to re install that.

3. Now the hard part you need to find a kind person on here who will PM you a vWii version of that IOS! I repeat a vWii version!

4. You'll probably get this as a .Wad file which you then open using Multi Mod Manager install this if you haven't already then go to 5.
http://www.hack-wii-u.com/multi-mod-manager-13-4/

5. Open MMM at the top go to IOS
Make sure cios236 is in the current loaded cios so select Cios236 & load it.
Come out of IOS then just install the wad using the normal Wad installer in MMM further down.

After installing I opened my Wii U menu & went to update. It downloaded as usual then took 10 mins to install which was a lot better than the few seconds it did before.
The update worked no problems then Mario Kart 8 updated no probs with the Amibo update.

Make sure you read all you can.
Make sure you get the right IOS, if you're not sure ask on forums double check everything just for piece of mind.
Any future wads or installs make sure it runs on a Wii U/vWii even if it doesn't say!

Some more info for after fixing the problem.
http://www.hacksden.com/showthread.php/8291-A-suggestion-for-all-softmodded-vWii-s

I hope that helps
If you get stuck post up on here & I'll try to help. If there's stuff you want me to add in PM me & I'll try to update this main post.

So I'm assuming the problem is that I installed homebrew on my WiiU and now I will keep getting the 162-3006 error code and not be able to update? :'(
I'm so confused as to what I should do right now.

Did your homebrew work ok before?
Looking at your report your missing some stuff that mine has

IOS1768489209[56] (rev 21010 Info: d2x-v10beta53-alt-vWii): Trucha Bug NAND Access
IOS1768489210[57] (rev 21010 Info: d2x-v10beta53-alt-vWii): Trucha Bug NAND Access
IOS1768489211[58] (rev 21010 Info: d2x-v10beta53-alt-vWii): Trucha Bug NAND Access

4mins 14 sec in he specifically uses 56 57 & 58 so did you install the d2x custom installers correctly?

That's what stands out to me.
Anyone else spot something wrong as I'm not experienced enough to know what might be the cause.

I only remember needing to install 236 for my Virtual Consoles to install, that was all I wanted. All my homebrew works fine atm, is there a way to remove or uninstall what ever might be blocking the update? I'm not going to mess with it since I can still play my Wii U game fine. I just want to be able to update without no problems. I don't intend to add any more homebrew or any more modifications to the vWii. Whatever you guys think let me know what I should do.

Well If your Homebrew is working & your vWii is ok even your SysCheck looks ok to me I'm not sure what to say other than try the first few steps to do with the wifi.
Or maybe look into re installing the HB Channel & IOS's but I'm not sure you can.
Hopefully someone will have an answer on here soon, keep trying new stuff tho.

Edit
I just noticed your IOS53 is different to mine
Yours
IOS53 (rev 4113): No Patches

Mine
IOS53 (rev 5919): No Patches

Maybe look into getting that from someone?

Fixed!!! Thank you so much for pointing that IOS53 wasn't (rev 5919). Now the update went through as it normally would have! All I did was get the normal IOS53 (rev 5919) and used loaded Multi-Mod Manager, selected cios236 as my loaded IOS, went back and installed IOS53 through the built in wad manager and BOOM! Fixed :)

Hello,

thanks for this thread. Already helped me with identifying my problem. But i seem to have fucked up pretty badly, i'm currently in the process of figuring this out by myself but any help is much appreciated.

How i fucked up:
1 Used Smash Stack for the initial HBC installation (PAL fix by giantpune, HackMii boot.elf)
2 Used DmpMiNND to dumb nand + keys.
3 Used d2x cios installer to install a cIOS (56-v5662)
4 Tried to run USB loader gx (3.0) from the homebrew channel. No success, the error indicated that i have to use a cios of at least 64-v6176
5 Used NUSD to create a patched IOS58-64-v6176.wad.
6 Installed IOS58-64-v6176.wad via YAMM
-> Resulted inthe HBC stopped working, a re-installation of the HBC is not possible due to a hang-up during HackMii scam screen (Press 1 to continue).

How i attempt to fix it:
1 Used Smash Stack to start up loadmii.
2 Use loadmii to load and execute .dol binaries. E.g. Syscheck2

I'm currently working on getting loadmii to load Syscheck or - since my version of loadmii does not seem to load any .dol - searching for another vWii captable HBW loader. I'll update the post if i manage it to get any further.

1. First off are you doing this on a Wii or a Wii U? Are you getting the 162-3006 error when updating? If not you might be better off looking through the forums to fix your HB channel.
Well done for dumping your Nand keep that safe as it might save you here.

2. Did you only install cIOS (56-v5662)?
So you didn't install these then using d2x cios installer?
IOS1768489210[57] (rev 21010 Info: d2x-v10beta53-alt-vWii)
IOS1768489211[58] (rev 21010 Info: d2x-v10beta53-alt-vWii)

3. Don't install anything you're not sure even works with your setup. If the Homebrew channel is screwed start by fixing that first as that is the only way to sort all your problems.

4. When you did this '5 Used NUSD to create a patched IOS58-64-v6176.wad' I think you installed/patched a Wii U IOS with a Wii one which would stop your Wii U updating giving you the 162-3006 error.

5. The only way to fix your problem is to find help on fixing your HBC when that's up and working (get back here to sort out your 162-3006 error if you have one as you haven't mentioned that yet).

Sorry I can't be more help but I don't want to give you the wrong info & you brick your Wii/Wii U. So as I said find info on fixing your HBC maybe start a new thread just on that.
Good luck mate.

Thanks for the reply.

1) vWii on a Wii U

2) Yes, later i installed a 58-64-6176. The wad was assembled with NUSD.

3) I followed a tutorial for the vWii, however, i probably should've looked into more then one in the first place. And then double-check it. So childrens, don't make my mistake.

4) Yes, that's what i guessed as well. I recieve the 162-3006 during updating the WiiU firmware probably due to the vWii nand not accessable.

Edit#1: Related: http://hbc.hackmii.com/faq/
  • The installer tells me that it couldn't find a vulnerable IOS or something? What's that about?
5) There's no way to fix HBC that i'm aware off. The only way to re-install HBC would be Hackmii - which gives me the error i mentioned. The only method i can think of, would be smashstack loading loadmii (Homebrew loader like HBC). Then use loadmii to boot either up syscheck to see if i'm correct and finally load mmm to then finally install a propper cios wad. But that's really a shot in the blue and i might have broken my WiiU completly.

Also it's fine. Just re-thinking stuff while i write is already worth it.

Edit#2: Was able to dump a hackmii log using 0.6

Look for an updated version at:
http://bootmii.org

If this is already the latest version... well, suck it.

Edit#3: I was able to load up Homebrew Launcher 1.0 and from there WiiMod Light. Thanks to damymysteryman and MightyOne which made a thread with useful posts about this issue: https://gbatemp.net/threads/vwii-semi-bricked.353595/page-3

I can switch to 249 now with AHBPROT disabled. However, WiiMod freezes right after. Currently trying to solve this, as well as extract IOS58 from my nand backup or at least figuring out if this is even possible.

Edit #4: IOS58 and cIOS249 are definetly broken and can not be used. Now, i have to restore IOS58 and delete cIOS249 - the corrupted IOS58 is probably the reason for the error that causes the update to fail. Sadly, i don't have any clue how to archive this since i don't have nand access.

So as of now I have all the correct ios installed except possibly ios15. Compairing StevieMac's and Link's syscheck I currently have ios15 rev257 (no patch) and it looks like I need rev1288? That is the only mismatch I have now. Can't seem to find any download for it either. Any help?

I'm getting this same error too. My wii U was softmodded (attempted to softmod anyways!). This bricked my vWii mode. I'm assuming I'm stuck since I can't get into vWii to run my homebrew channel. Anyone got any suggestions for me? I've tried sending my wii u to nintendo... but they won't work on softmodded systems. Any help would definitely be appreciated!

You have to find out which IOS you fucked up. If you have a working CIOS installed, you may install an original vWii ISO and be golden. If your vWii mode is completly bricked, you're screwed. Your WiiU is pretty much worthless. I'm in a similiar situation. my vWii is not bricked but has no vulernarble IOS.

I'm going to plug it in when i get home and see if i can figure that part out. (this is for a black wii u deluxe). i also have a regular wii u. I know you can remove your nintendo ID and then use the id on a different wii. My black wii (since it is bricked) will not connect to the nintendo shop. I'm afraid if I just format the black wii...that nintendo's servers won't see that I removed it. (and I'm afraid my games will be lost and won't be able to transfer to the white wii). Does anyone have any experience with this? BTW...thanks artisticMink for the quick reply.

Sorry to hear your probs junkyarddog but this isn't really a problem to do with this thread so you're probably better off looking with artisticMink finding a way to rebuild your vWii HBC. When you get it sorted come back here!
Maybe start your own thread would get more results? Sorry guys I think it would be bestfor this thread to stick to error 162-3006 specific problems.

If I find anything on the problems what you guys have I'll be sure to give you guys a shout.

Well, it is a related problem after all. I wouldn't mind my vWii mode if it would not prevent my WiiU from updating. I strongly guess that 50% of the people with the 162-3006 error installed a wii IOS at some point. Like we did.

Yes I get where you're coming from but the error 162-3006 can't be fixed unless you can access your vWii or HBC first right? So it's not related until you get that sorted.
On another note looking at your report artisticMink I can't really read it until you get a SysCheck which shows the revisions of the IOS's you have installed. But I am researching the bricked vWii stuff fingers crossed something will turn up, but like I said you'll get a lot more answers making a new thread specific to your problems.
