1) Can I use GW and play SSB/Pokemon (any other games?) local multiplayer with friends who have the USA consoles? Both mine and their game(s) will be USA ones though.

(I had more questions... I'll post them later. Just a bit busy atm.)

Thanks!

GW firmware will be released soon to support N3DS, but at the moment, no u cant
I don't think you understood my question. Let me rephrase.

In this analogy, let's pretend I've just got 2 4.5 NORMAL 3dss, and both have gateway. However, one is JAP, and the other is US. Local MP, provided both are using USA roms. Yes or No? Works?

In current gw version you can do local multi if everyone is using the same region so I guess yes. If they have everything already running on the n3ds, the local play is trivial

Good! Thanks for answering! As long as the ROMS are the same region, correct? That's all I needed to know (from what I remember... I had more questions, but I can't really remember them at this time. Also, very busy, currently.) I'm just trying to think up pros to buying a JAP N3DS LL, while I'm an American and only use USA roms (at least for online and local play). So there will literally be no difference, provided GW is the same, as the 4.5 one.

pretty sure local MP is not reagion free unless the specific game supports it, some do some don't i did see a list a while back which said which ones do and which don't.........and iirc someone had say a EU console and tried playing a US rom with local multi player to a US console and it wouldnt work.......but i think that was a good while back, so im not sure if that might of changed

The games are completely different IDs so I don't think region free local play will ever work. Guess GW would have to build a database with equivalent game IDS and why go through the hassle at all if you have regionfree

Thats kind of confusing... If my ROM is US, does it matter if my console is JAP, EU or US? (Using gateway of course)
I mean, if i'm running a US rom, the game will think my console is US too, right?

Local multiplayer works as long as the games are of the same region, and even works cross-region for a bunch of games. Download Play does not however so if a game uses Download Play as the only means of local multiplayer you're out of luck.
Honestly I think region locked multiplayer is the most retarded thing ever as I visit my dad in Singapore on a yearly basis and they use USA region 3DS systems, so it's very limited what games I can play local MP in with my brother when I'm there, unless I download the USA version of a game I want to play with him (which wasn't even an option before I got a GW), and then I won't be able to use my save file.

And the specific games that supports region-free MP include SSB and Pokemon I think.
There are more, I saw a list ages ago before those were ever released that had at least 15-20 games on it and was probably incomplete. I remember NSMB2 being on the list, as well as Kid Icarus I think, but MK7 is region locked in local MP.
In this case that shouldn't matter though as the games are of the same region.

Yes, the only exception is Download Play. But you can Download Play from a JP console with a US rom to a US console just fine, you just can't Download Play to a console that's a different region than the game (so two JP consoles is a no go there for example)

Thx! Didnt know about that =p
The only thing that hold me from buying a JAP console is that update US games would be a pain, since i cant download the update from the e-shop.
Plus the fact that i dont know if my international visa card would work in JAP e-shop.
