I'm in the US, and I'm looking to import an Australian "New" 3DS around this Christmas. You guys know of any places that won't charge out the asshole for one? I've checked ebay and stuff, but people are high-balling the shit out of them there.

Thanks!

Play-Asia would be your best option right now, as they stock all the N3DS accessories too (gotta get those faceplates and that sweet Japan only N3DS cradle)

Shit guys, both of those are charging a ton for 'em. Is there a "normal" price for the "New" 3DS? Something I can look at to compare prices at other sites to make sure I don't get scammed.

$215 is a normal price.
the first comment is from a guy who bought one from mightyape in France. 279$ is standard retail price in NZ.
When Mightyape put the New 3DS on their site to pre-order, everyone went for it but they soon stopped people from ordering it as it's a restricted item. Out of courtesy they went through with the orders.
So you paid $280 bucks for one?! How long did it take to come?
Remember that AUD/NZD is higher than USD. It's $280 NZD, not $280 USD.

I actually just realized I was looking at the XL versions on Play Asia, which they are charging quite a bit more than I want to pay for one. I see they're selling the regular Australia ones, but why $20 more? I'd probably end up buying the Japanese one for $200 if they keep that markup on it when I go buy one later.

So Play Asia's a good place to buy? I don't mind $20 extra for shipping if it's fast and the console itself is only $200.

I was originally going to order from Mightyape, when placing the order I was charged 15NZD for international shipping, but shortly after got an email saying that because of the value of the item I'd need to pay an extra 70NZD for tracked shipping. Was too high for me, so I cancelled, and I think a friend who paid the extra later had his order cancelled and refunded anyway when they just outright refused to ship it.

Looks promising. How long did shipping take, and what sender did you use?

I used FedEx. 2-3 days. Mine took a couple longer, something about processing.

I wish I would have remembered this site. Went with NCSX, big mistake. $240 shipped. Could have gotten a Groudon edition for ~$200 shipped. :(

Yeah, I think I'm gonna use that site. That's really impressive for shipping time with that price... I'll grab the Groudon one! :ha:

Thanks for the help everyone!

I haven't been gaming for such a long time. Been mostly busy with sleep, hardware tinkering and checking GBAtemp frequently.

It's going alright thanks :) I know what you mean with gaming time. It's precious where I can get it these days.

@Maximumbeans, Indeed. I've been working on getting this Infecutus chip to work on my PS2. But after soldering, I realised that a plastic piece was missing from the power ribbon cable to the power and eject buttons.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Now I could go with soldering the contacts from the cable to the connector on the mobo, but doesn't sound like a good permanent solution.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
Man, that's beyond my brain  I'm no good with hardware for now. I'd like to get into hardmods in future though
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Maybe start practice soldering. Get a cheap-ass soldering iron and follow some good YouTube tutorials.

Least my experience has gotten better than over a decade ago. My iron would constantly bump into components and break them.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
Sounds good. I actually did soldering but like 16 years ago for school so uuuuh probably rusty haha
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Same here. I did soldering at school from a teacher who I honestly liked since he had plenty of good electronics experience.
