Can the Wii U gamepad be emulated to the Wii U?

Some applications like the settings menu REQUIRE the gamepad to be enabled. I f-ing hate the Gamepad and I'd rather let the battery die than use it but some games like Bayonetta do require the gamepad to be on.

I was wondering if it would be possible to emulate the Wii U Gamepad to be connected to the Wii U by using some sort of software on the pc and a bluetooth usb stick.

Anyone? :)

some games like Bayonetta do require the gamepad to be on.

This is hella annoying, since I usually keep the gamepad battery unplugged and use the Pro controller, but no, try that with Bayonetta and it bitches that it can't connect to the controller. Hello, the Pro is a controller, ya idjits! No other game (that I've played, anyway) has ever complained about a disconnected gamepad, unless there was a requirement to actually use the thing. I hope this isn't the start of a trend.

I don't hate the gamepad, mind you, just I like the Pro better, and really hate the battery life of the gamepad.

Yeah it's very annoying have to turn on the Gamepad while not even using it. It a waste of electricity and equipment.

I see no reason why it wouldn't be possible theoretically, but would practically require a miracle of reverse-engineering or a substantial leak from Nintendo. To put it in perspective, I've read about a couple of efforts put forth to emulate the Wii Remote to use other devices in place of it, like an Android phone, and (to the best of my knowledge) they have all failed (Wii doesn't recognize them at all). Probably due to some sort of nuances in the way the Wii deals with Wii remotes. My point? The Wii Remote is a simple Bluetooth controller, the Gamepad is a (relatively) complex Wi-Fi controller.

I think the same as you op, I almost play with the Pro Controller only, and having to exchange to Gamepad only to switch some setting is kinda annoying, at least now you can enter to the eShop through the Pro Controller, Miiverse too.

I like the Gamepad it feels good in my hands and I like the extra features it enables. Having said that, there is no denying the pro controller is obviously more comfortable, and if a game doesn't make good use of the gamepad and it's not required, then yeah, I'll use the pro controller. But I have no ill-will to the gamepad.

I don't understand why settings can't be done right on the tv, but I bet a future update will let you do on the tv if you wish.

It isn't released yet in a way the general public can handle though.

Oh wow, I stand corrected. That's actually pretty impressive. Wonder if it's progressed at all ease-of-use-wise in the last year + a half.

As others have mentioned, that could be super useful to LPers of Wii U games.

Home Button>Controller Settings>Turn off Display

I can't count how many times I've done this. I leave the gamepad on the charger, and as soon as I start the game I want (with pro controller), I turn off the display of the gamepad. Kind of annoying it doesn't turn off on it's own when it's not being used. Hoenstly, the gamepad is the dumbest gimmick I've seen from Nintendo yet. There isn't a single game that makes it interesting (a chore if you ask me). When I heard of it I thought it might be cool to play Wii-u games on the gamepad (no TV), but then I discovered the signal won't reach other rooms. If I need to sit in the same room as the TV, I may as well turn on the TV.

The Gamepad is nice for off-TV play and games like Zombi U, also works perfect as a browser. I wish it would be an option to set it off when it's not used, like Obveron said is kinda annoying having to turn off display every time.

Not quite. libdrc is a library/proof of concept for connecting the gamepad to a computer as a controller/screen. This thread is about the opposite, connecting a computer to a Wii U console as if the computer were a gamepad.

I'm quite aware of libdrc purpose, and clearly understand what the OP is looking for. But i think you didn't even bother reading the linked page.

libdrc is a library for application developers who want to use the capabilities of the Wii U GamePad in their software. It also provides the ability to simulate a Wii U GamePad to communicate with a Wii U.

OP: This is what you're looking for, although there's no documentation (unless you count the source code, which is very well written).
