FAAAAAAAN-TASTIC! (or not...)

Legendary Digital Media and Crackle announced the principle cast for the upcoming Dead Rising: Watchtower feature-length film.

Rob Riggle (Let’s Be Cops, 22 Jump Street), Harley Morenstein (Epic Meal Time), Keegan Connor Tracey (Once Upon a Time), and Aleks Paunovic (This Means War) will be joining the principle cast of the film.

Riggle will play Frank West, a photo-journalist skilled in surviving and reporting on Zombie outbreaks; Morenstein will play Pyro, a biker and Paunovic’s second-in-command; Paunovic will play Logan, the tough criminal head of a biker gang and Tracey will play Jordan, a straight-laced journalist.

Dead Rising: Watchtower (the name of the project), and whatever action photography it may contain, will be released straight-to-streaming and video sometime in 2015.

Rob Riggle (.... 22 Jump Street)

At the time I first read that it had been less than 30 hours since I had seen the film and could not place him as even being in it. One trip to IMDB later and it appears he was an uncredited guest appearance, albeit one with an actual character name.

I think that might be a greater cop out here than "from the executive producer of".

Anyway I reckon this could work. Not sure how they will be able to replicate the anguish in trying to save people from psychos, figuring out how to get the mission zombrex and the extras I might need and more besides but the rest of the story is perfect for a cheesy film.

I didn't want to feel like I was disrespecting Rob Riggle because he's a good comedian actor but for Dead Rising it seems like a miscast, imho, unless they're planning to make the movie a hell of a fun time like Zombieland!

The mere reason I'm not putting Z-Nation is because I watched the pilot (didn't feel like watching the rest) and it felt rather too silly and cheesy but still somewhat good (Baby walkers is something you don't see on the Walking Dead!). The Walking Dead is getting shittier per season *sigh* makes me wish HBO had grabbed it than AMC.

A Dead Rising movie could be fantastic

until you fuck up the casting. Whoever picked Riggle to be West must've been on some serious drugs.

Don't care so much about the cast, as long as they have Riggle ride around on a tricycle sporting blades on the wheels while wearing a tutu I'll watch it.

I always forget the Dead Rising games have any kind of story at all, since they're more sandbox than anything, so I'm curious to see how this will actually play out.

Dead Rising 1 on the 360 is a lot of fun but the saving system is what made me avoid it because whenever I'd quit the game and didn't save as per the game requires I'd go right to the fucking beginning and I can't be bothered with that.

Dead Rising games are probably the funnest out of all walker games out there, while for storytelling Telltale's Walking Dead takes the cake.

Guys, guys, guys.... Remember the golden rule...
Videogame movies suck. There may be some rare, and I mean RARE exceptions, but it's always been like this, and it will hardly change.

Hell, It's even a trope, people!

It might be an indicator that I should not branch into film criticism but with the exception of Uwe Boll's works I have found quite a few computer game films to be quite tolerable. Certainly nothing I would have missed out on by not seeing, but usually about on par with the bulk of whatever other films out that year.
Mind you I have not seen Max Payne nor Need for Speed yet.
