Game Freak, developers of one of the most profitable franchises in gaming, has decided not to patch their year-old game to make it compatible with the new features in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.

so, in other words he is saying go buy the new games

i thought the DS era is finished , why can't they patch it ?
or every game has a number of patch ?

its strange , because Mega Lati@s is programmed in X and Y
i also think Hoppa and the the other pokemon won't be available in X and Y

With the exception of Black and White 1 & 2 (as they literally where the same game), when have they ever gone back and patched a previous game to allow newer pokemon to be available? Never. This is not a surprise. If a model does not exist in a game but it exists in the new game, obviously it serves as incentive to buy the new game.

Red/blue --> Gold/Silver (1-way trade from 1G to 2G. 2G pokes could not go to red/blue)

Ruby/Sapphire ---> Diamond/Pearl (1-way trade only)

Diamond/Pearl --> Black/White 1&2 (1-way trade only)

Black/White 1 --> Black/White 2 (2-way trade except for Kyruem. These games were literally the same except for Kyreum and some minor adjustments. Think of BW1 as if you started your journey on a saturday while BW2 was on Sunday.)

BW1/BW2 --> X/Y (1-way trade only)

X/Y --> OR/AS (1-way trade only for certain pokemon)

until X/Y, there was no way to patch the older games.

This is sad though.

Except these were different generations, while X/Y and OR/AS are both gen 6.

I get that they want to keep the features from OR/AS exclusive to these games, but don't understand why they won't update X/Y with the new mega's since that would be unfair to the people who don't want to buy OR/AS (who wouldn't buy these anyway?). Really hope they still make a patch for X/Y though.

That's no excuse. BW1/BW2 were both Gen 5 and kyurem cant be traded into BW1 like how the new megas cant be traded back to XY. Also, who said anything about fair? XY has been released for a little over a year so most people would find no reason to switch to another version so soon (the average wait time between versions and remakes is usually 2 years). If XY could gather all the same pokemon that ORAS could, there would be no reason to buy oras at all except for the main storyline. People would wait until they were traded back into XY and then clone them, modify them via powersaves, and then be done with them.

AFAIK this was never possible.

Yea your right, I meant to say Ruby/Sapphire ---> Diamond/Pearl

A bunch of shitty megas aren't much incentive to get the new game as it is. Making them available on X and Y would just be silly.

I however will stick with what i've got till the next gen of pokermans, to which i'll grab a gardevoir and main that using basically none of the new pokemon ever as usual.

That was a 2 way trade. ;)
Only new Pokémon were impossible to trade. Probably the same thing here for ORAS.

Gold/Silver--> Ruby/Sapphire (1-way trade only)
No trade between 2G and 3G. I thought it very stupid, I am pretty sure they could do something via NGC... like they could do a patch for XY... but they did not. :(

Ruby/Sapphire --> Firered/Leafgreen (2-way trade)
Diamond/Perl --> SS/HG (2-way trade)
These are the appropriate analogies.
Your argument is invalid.

Chances are you can trade, but not items. That would prevent the mega stones from being traded. (also, no trade from 2->3 was because they completely reworked the way Pokemon data and stats worked. The only way this could have happened is by generating a Pokemon that is sort of like the old one, but in some cases wouldn't even match completely)
I wonder how battles between XY and ORAS would work though.

Diamond/Perl --> SS/HG (2-way trade)

None of those remakes introduced new Pokemon or forms that weren't in the other games of that gen though, as far as I'm aware.

I thought red/blue was 1 way fully:unsure:, as for the other one, that was a typo. I meant to say Ru/Sa --> Diamond/Pearl. i corrected it in the post a few below it.

Diamond/Perl --> SS/HG (2-way trade)

I purposelly left out the other remakes because they did not introduce any new pokemon/evolutions like the examples i stated.

Oh, I see. Maybe the hole argument about trading is flawed, because you don´t trade the
Megaforms but the non-Megaforms which are available in XY and ORAS. Just the trade while
holding a new magastone could be forbidden.

Chances are it'll be like Pokebank and you can trade anything as long as it's not holding an item.

Wait... You can only trade Gen VI pokemon to a Gen III remake once? And not back?
of course you will be able to trade back and forth. just not new mega stones. the game will probably give you a 'something is not right' message.

it did that back between red and gold too if you tried to trade with gen 2 pokemon in your party.
