The unfortunate news have been revealed which mentions that the Wii U GameCube adapter is only usable for Super Smash Bros. Wii U but there's a chance that Nintendo could change this in the future with a new firmware update.

In a way this is pointless to own because you can't even play Wii U games with it much less on the Wii Mode, though for Super Smash Bros. it works.
Very disappointed once again, Nintendo.

I was hoping the WiiU wouldn't be hacked for a while, for Nintendo's sake.
It's stuff like this that starts to change my mind.

How can people seriously expect the GC controller adapter to work with every Wii U game out of the box? It's a controller that didn't exist when those games were made. I would have expected this from gamefaqs, not gbatemp.

Or you know, Wii mode, which supports GC controllers on even non GC Wiis? Routing the Wii portion at least should not be a technical impossibility in any way. Also many games support the classic controller IIRC, which is basically a GC controller..

a real kick in the balls, would have been nice to be able to use a GameCube controller with the likes of Mario Kart 8 or Wind Waker HD. Still i will hold onto the hope that the adapter may become part of a GameCube VC one day, but I ain't betting the house on it

Wii OS does not support USB controllers. Moreover every game has own bluetooth stack inside and controller support.
Wii Classic Pro has more buttons.

A Classic Controller is in no way "basically a GC controller". It connects through a Wii remote.

Okay. :) I'm not saying that the Gamecube gamepad is worse - I'm saying that it has drawbacks, the biggest of which is being wired. :)
The Classic Controller isn't wireless though. I would argue that it's almost as bad as a proper wired controller with a reasonably long cable, as the cable going to the Wiimote is a bit short to just lay the controller on a table or something, so you are pretty much stuck with laying the Wiimote in your lap where it can easily fall down during heated gaming sessions and would then tug on the CC, and even then your arm movement is restricted by the short cable.

About the only pro with the CC over the GC controller is that instead of a wire going all across the floor, it's just a short wire that people won't be likely to trip over, but that can also quickly turn into a con if it slips down from your lap. The GC controller is better to use, though, mainly because of the stick placement and superior triggers.

And of course there is the Wavebird, they may release a wireless GC controller for Smash as well as I am sure people will be requesting it to no end, but they are not impossible to get ahold of online today regardless.

Of course it is - it's wireless by extension. It's connected to the WiiMote, which is wireless, therefor the controller itself is wireless as well. It's an extension for an already wireless controller. Unless you count the little bit of cord that's attached to the Wii Remote, the Classic Controller is in no way physically connected to the actual console. The GameCube controller is, unless you're using Wavebirds, and I'm not sure if those will work with this new adapter. "Wireless" doesn't mean that there isn't a single wire in the whole controller, otherwise there would be no such thing as a wireless controller - they all have wires on the inside. Don't be so literal. :P

I think they said the Wavebird would work, but it was Nintendo Australia. As for which is better, I don't really have a preference between wired or wireless, but I wish they'd made the Classic Controller's cord either longer so the remote could be set on a table, or make it a casing for the remote as they originally planned to do. I just put velcro on mine but I'm not happy about it.

The cable on the Classic Controller brings with it a lot of the same caveats as a fully wired controller so I would not call it wireless. There's a big difference between internal wiring and an external cable prone to being in the way. Whether that cable is connected to the console or connected to something else doesn't really matter, as long as it requires a cable plugged in and the cable is noticable, it prevents it from being convenient, and since convenience is the entire point of wireless controllers, I can't call it wireless.

Here's a better idea - Nintendo should've released a normal wireless controller that has all the inputs of a Wii remote and the IR camera situated where the wire would normally be on a wired controller. Bam - mind = blown. The whole cord extension business was dumb from the start and anything but comfortable to use.

This isn't about your interpretation of the word, it's about what the controller actually is
(or rather, the extension, since it's not a controller in and out of itself - you connect it to a controller). It's an extension of a wireless controller, therefor it is wireless. Wireless means without a wire. There is no wire connected to the console, therefor it's wireless. Is it a good implementation? No, it's awful, that's not the point though. See above for my take, I actually think they're bad controllers by design. ;)

This morning I read that it was compatible with all classic controller compatible games, including those on Wii. Then I saw this thread and looked back at where I read about it and apparently Ninty changed the listing to remove the above line.

End of the day, sucks to be us.

That would be better, but it would have made the controller a bit more expensive. I would have paid for it, but I see why they did it.
