I dont know anything about the Wii U but was looking to pick one up this week.
Try the new mario, Hyrule Warriors and Disney Infinity 2.0.

Are there any exploits? I seem to be reading something about the Wii side having exploits, so what can I do off of that?
Currently I was using Config usb loader and a usb drive with some games.
Is that still a possibility or I'd have to burn ISO's instead?

Also I saw a mention I need a retail Lego wii game?
Any options in the realm of Gamecube? I have a few laying around like Eternal Darkness I wouldnt mind taking a stab at again.
Still need a gcube mem card?

those are the 4 stickies in this subforum and they contain everything you need to know, so instead of any of us trying to explain, what you want to know, you can just read the first post of those threads and then you will have all your answers :-)
they also include tutorials of how to softmod your vWii and what not to do in order to avoid bricks, if you still got questions afterwards, feel free to ask :-)

Basically everything that worked on the Wii works on the WiiU's Wii mode (known as vWii). So yes, you can still use Configurable USB Loader and everything else. Homebrew Channel works, Gecko OS etc., basically everything. To install the exploit, you need an exploitable game. SmashStack exploit, Bathxxx etc.

You do have to be a little bit more cautious with the WiiU mode because if you mess up your Wii mode, there's no way to restore it. So do NOT go messing with your IOSes. Installing cIOS 249 etc. is fine, but don't go touching any of the system ones. For the same reason, do not use StartPatch or anything that modifies the system menu. Use Gecko OS for region free instead. Make sure you use vWii-specific Forwarder channels etc. because regular Forwarder ones won't work and might cause problems. In other words, don't assume that Wii and vWii necessarily uses the same installers.

That aside, move all your Wii homebrew across and it will work fine. Nintendo don't even bother fixing the Wii stuff anymore, so feel free to install the latest update.

Ok, thanx. I wasn't sure if the Exploitable games had been patched. So I'll keep an eye out for whichever are avail when I go to pick up.
I didn't do much with the Wii. Mostly just config usb loader and very rarely a virtual console game.
I barely remember the IOS stuff so I'll try to hold back on that. So a vwii specific forwarder for Config usb is probably all I'll need.

Side note, since I was planning to get Disney Infinity marvel, the base should be compatible with infinity 1.0, so would I then be able to use the Iso and then 1.0 figures and playsets?

Last question, how does hdd formatting work out?
I have a 250gb I used on my wii, but I have this 2TB seagate network drive that I got for free. I just ordered a usb 3.0 adapter for it.
Can I have it just formatted NTFS, copy the 250gb contents and have it compatible across both?
Or should I partition it to something like 1.5tb for wii u and .5 for Wii?
Both would be compatible if using a standard usb 2.0 wire?

you cant use 1 hdd for vwii and wiiu mode, wiiu mode uses its very own format and will always ask to format the hdd, if its not formated for wiiu, so if you want to keep your vwii hdd connected to wiiu and avoid the format nag, you can use ustealth to hide it in wiiu mode, you will need 2 hdds, if you want to use one on wiiu mode, too
partitioning 1 hdd for wiiu + vwii usage wont work

you need FAT32, use wii backup manager to format to the appropriate FAT32 format and use it to convert your files from iso to wbfs. The WBFS filesystem is garbage and outdated.
And before you say 'Fat32 doesnt support over 4gb' this one handles that by splitting files. You also cant use one HDD over both, what im talking about is only for vWii loaders like usb loader GX

And please read the stickies and stop flooding these forums with useless repeats of threads. Its mindblowing that everyone seems to ignore stickies.

he doesn't need FAT32, only for some homebrews, for backup loading NTFS works perfectly fine, actually even is the preferred file system
so if he got a small FAT32 partition on his hdd for those homebrews, that don't support NTFS yet, then he will be fine

Oh really? I thought Fat32 was the preferred. Ok, which ever you like then. WBFS is dead though, dont use that.

EDIT: Actually I remember why I used FAT32. Its because at the time Im pretty sure nintendont needed FAT32 for gamecube games, So i set it up for that So i could have it all on one partition.

well like I said, some homebrew only support fat32, because they are outdated, I think even the homebrew channel only works on fat32, but not entirely sure right now, but if he wants to focus on backup loading and doesn't want to split his isos into smaller files, then he's best off using a small partition for the fat32 homebrew stuff and a big ntfs one for his isos :-)

edit: basically, in most cases you can use your fat32 sd card for the homebrew apps and your ntfs hdd for isos

I believe I had it something like that, 200gb of ntfs for the wii isos and 50gb misc for homebrew and roms.
Just knowing I can keep a similar format is what I was concerned about.
I thought I read something the wii u encrypts the HDD?

That's correct.

wiiu mode uses its very own format

you can use a micro sd card with sd adapter, sure, it's basically the same as using a regular sd card

whew, thx :D I was having such hard time trying to find one of those here... and I had read somewhere that we couldn't use them :D thx a lot

micro sd or sd doesn't matter for smash stack, all that matters is that it is a SD card and no SDHC card (4gb+ is always SDHC, there are also 4gb SD cards, but they don't always work with SD only devices/programs, so maybe they could also work, maybe not)

Ok, I guess I had some confusion going on with the wii u encryption concept.
So whatever partition I let the wii U format will be encrypted, thus making it only Wii U, not vwii compatible.
Since I wouldn't be able to just connect to pc and put my wii backups onto.
So the Wii U has no issue with partitions? If I were to go with something like 1 TB for Wii U, 800GB Ntfs for wii isos, 200gb fat32 misc apps?

What is the preferred usb loader? configurable usb still up there? I remember there being a few others.

seriously, did you even read, what I wrote? you CAN NOT use 1 HDD for both vWii and WiiU, using 2 partitions will not work
you will have to use 2 HDDs
1 for WiiU mode ONLY
1 for vWii, you can partition that one however you want... either just NTFS for the whole HDD and then FAT32 for your SD card or with 2 partitions, 1 being NTFS for isos and FAT32 for homebrew

edit: in case you wanna know, why... the wiiu simply doesn't allow for multiple partitions on 1 HDD, if it finds a partition table, it will ask to format the HDD and always formats the whole HDD into one without partition tables
it will ask to do that every time for your vWii HDD, if you got it connected while being in WiiU mode, that's why I recommended to use ustealth on your vWii HDD, it corrupts the partition table, which makes it possible to hide it from WiiU mode, so you don't get that message anymore
and no, you can not use ustealth to use 1 HDD on both vWii and WiiU, only to hide your vWii HDD from WiiU mode
you WILL need to use 2 HDDs, at least until someone figures out a way to decrypt the wiiu file system
