So I was playing the public Smash Bros. demo and something crazy happened.
I pushed the home button after a match and quit the game. i got the "Please wait..." message and the screen faded to black. I closed the 3DS. And a few seconds later, I heard this excruciatingly loud high-pitched buzzing noise. I looked all around the house trying to found out what was making the sound, but everywhere I went the noise stayed the same volume. So I put my 3ds up to my ear and realized that's what it was coming from. I opened the 3DS and found this wonderful screen:

And I do not own a Gateway. Smash was downloaded from the eShop. This 3DS is version 8.1.0-19U.
The noise continued even with the volume slider all the way down.
I had to hold the power button for like 20 seconds to get it to shut off. It boots up fine now but... anyone have any insight about why this happened?

You tried to shut it down, remove the SD Card then boot it up?

^ I remember the days when I used PSP with too many plugins or stuff and then injecting the card would make it work normalised.

smash reboot the 3ds when you run and close the game
so after you quit the game wait till the home menu appears

it might have something to do with something happening during the reboot after you quit the game

The game was stored on the SD Card so it might be inflicting somehow with your 3DS.

I've been playing the Smash Unlimited 3DS demo on my 2DS and have not had this problem.

There's probably a really specific timing aspect to it. Once I got it to freeze with just a black screen.
I'm gonna call Nintendo and confuse the hell out of a tech specialist. XD

I called Nintendo and they said it was a memory issue and the system needs repairs. But it works fine. I looked around and the memory issue has a slightly different error code than mine. Oh well, this is probably just a Smash programming quirk due to the way it takes up more ram.
