Due to a bug online where if Peach pulls turnips (down + b) in "For Glory" mode (where no items are allowed) users of Peach online have an unfair advantage even though it's part of her moveset. This has led to Nintendo banning users temporarily--for one day--even if they haven't been abusing the glitch. Nintendo has released a statement apologizing to players who were banned unfairly. The next online update to fix this problem will be ready in about a week.

Guess this puts an end to people hoping BBB would dump the JAP eshop version that has access to online play. After the 1.2 update releases, it wont matter anymore.

EDIT: Video of the glitch being replicated by someone called "Mochi"

Shit happens, not every glitch in every game can be debugged, ex. Skyrim and its myriad of odd glitches that sneaked past them after release, so this shouldn't come as a surprise, really.

People are speculating the glitch happens because even though items are not allowed in "For Glory" mode, some characters, namely Peach, ROB and Link, have moves where they can throw items in their movesets. The reason ROB and Link aren't being banned also is because the turnip is also a customizable move supposedly.

No, it's because turnip pull can (very rarely) pull up beam swords and bob-ombs which are regular items and therefore banned in For Glory.

I agree that this bug should have been caught before release. It sucks, and could be devastating to some people, to see "BANNED" for any reason especially if they did nothing wrong.

Can you imagine the uproar this would have caused on this site alone if everybody was able to play online and people starting accusing Nintendo of banning them for playing online with a Gateway card (even though it was a slight error on Nintendo's part)? It would probably have been worse that the whole "Gateway Brick Gate" fiasco.

I'm actually glad that we avoided a huge scandal due to region-locking. You could probably build a castle with the amount of bricks that would have been shat if that happened.

It's funny to see this happen in the first few days, I mean, it's a pretty stupid bug. At least they wised up at least a little and made a way to update their games.. Mario Strikers Charged was a superb online experience for about 3 years til someone found out how to boo-glitch to victory and then it was over. Nice to know you can expect to have a solid online mode when they patch things up so quickly.

Yeah, that's been a thing since at least Melee. Getting a regular item is very rare though. Also I suppose it's not 100% certain that's the cause but it would make sense.
But as there been a case of an item pulling in the game? That's what I wan to know, yes, it's been included in previous smashes, but what's to say that they changed it? Perhaps they just forgot to whitelist the turnips into being an acceptabke item in the server, no?

To be fair the kind of things the speedruns use are usually rather extreme and would practically never happen under normal circumstances.

And also, to be honest, how do you think those things are found?
"Ok, I just got this game, let's put it to the extreme conditions"
No, not really. It comes down to fucking around in a said game. Let's take GTA: Vice City, because it had a big glitch hunting boom recently. From one accidental find, the community was able to bring the game down from 1:25-ish, to sub-1 hour. That took a little less than a week.
Another example: Banjo Kazooie. A person was doing a normal run of the game, but he stood in a place nobody earlier did, and discovered a few minutes time-saver. (Furnace Fun skip for further google)

Damn, I shouldn't derail the topic here :P

Yeah, I know this run really well, and others should do so too, but my point is that people don't just phone Reggie going "yo, Reggie, gimme some of them tasty bugz plz"
It's clever experimenting, vast knowledge of the game mechanics and trial/error processes to get to a result such as this. Don't blame the dev for not catching every single bug, because if the game they made is good, people are bound to find such stuff. It's the developer's job to patch the bugs that make the game bad, and leave behind those that do no harm in the course of normal gameplay (Eg. early forest escape(s) in Ocarina 3DS)

Yoshi does the same for me, does he not throwing his eggs?. Didn't realize it was a glitch and an unfair advantage, thought it was just part of the game.
