Hacking Frustrated Noobie help GC off a HDD

Okay I have tried to avoid this but I need help. After looking in the forums for ways to play GC games off a HDD and following the guides, I was not able to fix my issue.

Whatever program I use (WII Flow, LOADER GX, ConfigUSB) they all dont work.

I have a 500 GB partioned into 1 (100 GB Fat32 32 cluster) and (368 NTFS for wii games)

I put the gc iso ( using a Melee iso) in GC Games ( name of the partion) GC Games:/games/ GALE01/game.iso

Whenever I try to run the game, I get a black screen, my wii led lights starts flashing and the system resets.

Wii flow does not show the GC files

Loader GX only shows the GC partion and not the wii partion

Configusb shows both but i get the black screen and resets.

Please help. I have tried to avoid asking because there are alot of guides but I just can't seem to fix my issue.

1. Don't use NTFS, even just for Wii games. NTFS support is experimental at best, use a FAT32 partition instead. Wii Backup Loader will split your files properly anyways, so no worries about files being too large to fit. The FAT32 partition you will be using for your games has to be Primary.
2. Start off by installing the standard MIOS
3. Create a folder called "Games" on the root of the partition. The partition with Gamecube games has to be the first partition on the drive (USB1: ). This is the folder where you'll be putting your games
4. Install the DIOS MIOS WAD over the original MIOS
5. Support for GC games in USB loaders is crap in my experience, I use DIOS MIOS Booter almost exclusively for all my Gamecube needs with great success
6. I suggest putting the games through the DiscEX utility - it will format them correctly for you

What about settings? I have installed the New Dios Mios Wad you said to install and still a black screen, except my wii led light does not flash now. I am installing a real GC Disc and it failed at the end.

1. That is the reason I partitioned the HD. I do not want split files. I just have the problem of both showing up on USB Loader GX.

The Partitions are fine assuming your FAT32 is physically before the NTFS one and both are primary (if you created the partitions in that order, it should be ok).
Make sure to update USBLoaderGX to R1231: http://www.mediafire.com/download/4chkwkwrwtigh4x/R1231_IOS222-249-250.7z
And set the Game Partition under hard drive settings to the NTFS one (it still shows the gamecube games from the FAT32 one at least for me).

Do you have a Gamecube or a Wii disc inserted or are you running the games fully disc-less? As far as splitting files is concerned, FAT32 is superior in every way to NTFS - NTFS barely works on the Wii and is not recommended in any shape or form. I suggest you switch, but you'll do whatever you want.

As said above, make sure that your FAT32 partition is physically before the NTFS partition. You can check that by right-clicking on My Computer, going to Manage and checking it in the Drive Manager.

Never follow Youtube tutorials - 9 out of 10 are outdated and misinformed.

Follow the previous steps, make sure that your FAT32 partition is physically first on the drive, launch games preferably with a disc in the disc drive and re-try. You don't have to switch to Nintendont, just use Dios-Mios.

Nintendont saves for all but a handful of games (some Pokemon ones).

The physical sector size DIOS MIOS supports is 512, but newer hard drives use 4K

I have a gamecube disc inserted (Spider-man 2) but I have tried with both a disc and without a disc with no luck. I will format the HD to one partion and Fat32 as you suggest.

I can double-check my settings tomorrow for you if you'd like - it's 2:30AM right now on my end and I don't want to wake up the rest of my family just to double-check things. What I can tell you is that using Dios Mios Booter is good for troubleshooting like this simply because the app is easy to use, has all the configuration options you could imagine and it "just works" every single time. Once we're sure Dios Mios works, we can move on to setting up your GUI loader.

This should work perfectly fine from what I'm seeing. I personally process the ISO's with DiscEx, but as far as I know, this step is not necessary anymore.

EDIT: By the way, you didn't really have to label the drive "USB1", by saying that I just meant that it has to be the first partition. The label doesn't really matter, loaders ignore it AFAIK.

Again, that's assuming his hard drive is even compatible with DIOS MIOS. If he bought it after 2011, it's very unlikely that it has 512 byte sectors.

Loads of drives can emulate 512-byte mode when prompted to. Of course compatibility is spotty, but it can be done.

According to Toshiba's website your disk has 512 byte sectors, so that's not the issue.

Ha! Good old methods never fail, it seems. I'm glad that we could help. Should you need any further assistance with setting up the loaders, be sure to post here again. Technically speaking using DiscEx is no longer necessary, but I do it anyways out of a force of habit, so maybe it does help in some cases as .ISO support is a pretty "recent" addition as far as I know. You could try using DMToolbox (also by Crediar) if you don't fancy DiscEx and want to use clean ISO's for whatever reason.
