Shocked no one has posted this yet. According to an interview with Kotaku at PAX, the HD remake is about 80% done. The game is said also to be out by August of next year, but no exact date was given. Hajime Tabata says Square-Enix wants to wait for "the PS4 and Xbox One install base to grow in Japan as well...", so sounds as if the company is taking their time entering next-gen by allowing it to gain traction in its home country first. This also likely has to do with the delays for Final Fantasy XV as well. Although, Tabata didn't have much to say about next main instalment other than it's currently top priority for the company. New footage was also shared at PAX, but has yet to be released publicly. It's been receiving positive feeback from various gaming outlets like IGN, however.

Are they adding any new content that wasn't in the PSP version?

Nope. No new story or challenge modes or anything like that. The three main differences are A) high-definition graphics; B) new controls for traditional controllers; and C) difficulty modes, because a lot of Japanese fans told Square Enix that Type-0 was just too hard.
So nothing new that can't be done with emulators and cheat codes.

Which is weird since Enix was the superior side of the merger imo

Enix was more popular in Japan when Squaresoft was more popular in the US. Never owned any Enix games, was more a Final Fantasy dude, along with Chrono Trigger, FF7, FF8 and FF9, but after the merger, there was, in my opinion a degradation in the quality of their games, but again, merely my opinion ;)

I enjoy games from both, and I agree with you that most anything after the merger was okayish to meh

Two rights apparently make a wrong.

speaking bout the C&D who wants to bet SE just "said" They're going to release Type 0 as a cover up for the C&D order what Evil Bastards
What do you mean? The game is literally almost finished at this point, porting games to new platforms does not take one spare afternoon.

As for the HD release, I'd prefer it on the PSVita, so I think I'll give this one a pass unless it'll be available on a sale, especially since I can play the original on my PSP just fine with the already fan translation applied. It's not like a file can magically "disappear" from the Internet - you can still find it despite the C&D.
