Hardware Is a JP "New 3DS" worth buying?

So the new console looks fukkin awesome. And it MAY even have ssspwn on day 1. Do you guys think it would be worth buying next month, even though it's in japanese? Especially since there's been no mention of a western release.

Pros:
New system (duh)
More powerful
Cooler looking
C-Stick
Attractive price

Cons:
Japanese :/

The DSi as well as the 3DS were region locked, there's no reason to expect the N3DS to be non-region locked, so the answer is "no" unless you want to import games or use the eShop in-tandem with a Japanese proxy for all your game purchases.

Perhaps he is thinking about using the unconfirmed region-unlock that smea suggested he could someday probably release.
Even if ssspwn and the non-existent region-unlock happens to work on the Jap N3DS, I think it is a better idea to wait for the European or American version (whatever suits you).
It is less of a risk, but you decide.

Seeing that the specs of the new system are improved by aprox. x2, it's somewhat unreasonable to think that it will run the same firmware as a standard 3DS until it's actually released, hence exploits that are usable now may be useless on the new machine.

It's actually likely that the new 3ds will run 8.1; the firmware changes actually prompted predictions for a new 3ds.
But it may be a while till a region-free hack for ssspwn... especially considering smea delayed release again :/

It depends on the person and the situation. For someone new to the 3DS in general, I think it's a steal. For someone that already owns a 2DS/3DS/3DS XL, I'm not so sure. Software is what backs up hardware. If Nintendo can manage to get good exclusive software running on the new 3DS, then yes it could be worth it. The price also seems reasonable for the overall package, ¥16,000 (if I got my number right), which should translate to $150 more or less. My 2DS cost me about $130 and features much less than what the new 3DS has in store.

I'm taking basic Japanese, but I doubt I could read 3DS menus...
Also, I keep thinking "N3DS" stands for Nintendo 3DS...
It probably wouldn't make much sense to get one until region free is released (which may not, and probably will not be possible).

If you're going to do this, make sure you know Japanese, as you may end up having to play Japanese games only.

I don't know Japanese and I can play Japanese games just fine, like Tales of Phantasia: Narikiri Dungeon X, for example. Though that's just me, which is why it varies from person to person.

It's subjective whether or not someone thinks that a game is better because they can or can't read the text. I can understand what happens based on the character's reactions and the events. I don't think less of a game because I can't read the text.

No... no... you can't. You can understand the emotions they're trying to convey, perhaps glimpses of what might be going on in the dialogue, but you don't understand the intricate plot. If people could understand each other fully so easily, we would have no languages to begin with.

The true beauty of games comes in the depth of the characters, and the ways you can interpret their dialogue and action; all this can be mixed with fun gameplay to make an amazing game.
However, the first part CANNOT be substituted with "I know what they're saying cuz of their face".

If you want to play JAP exclusive 3DS games, there is a point. There are games out there that don't require you to understand the text (Taiko is an example of this).

You can be sure that it'll be region locked.

Faces and events are enough for me to understand what's going on. Also, there's a big difference between playing a game from a region that's not from your own and trying to understand someone from another region who's talking to you in an unknown language. Games come with limited predetermined choices that are based on certain events whereas with real-life conversations you have so much to talk about and you have nothing to base it on.

Good point but the shop is virtually useless if don't understand the text when you want to search for games or add funds to the jap e shop tho

If you can afford to import all your games from Japan go for it, I doubt it'll be region-free.
