Hi there,

I have a hard modded PS2 and about 50 Sony DVD-Rs. The thing is, the game I burned on the disc is not working. It just takes me to the screen where I can access the memory card.

In that screen, beside the memory card is the disc, if I select the disc, it shows the Playstation 2 logo but then returns me to the "memory card" screen.

I tried burning another game onto another sony dvd and this one failed to even verify [Failed to Load Sectors, something like that].

Normally you would say "drive problems" or "PS2 Problems" but I burned those same games on Emtec DVD-Rs and the games worked perfectly fine. Perfectly.

So I ask, do Sony DVDs have some sort of protection embedded into them?

Thanks in advance.

Wrong. DVD-R has no copy protection.

DVD-R varies quality. These days many of them are made in Taiwan or China which are known to have crappy quality. The only DVD-R I trust is Taiyo Yuden DVD-R (With mediacode TYG03 and hub code starting at GH). Verbatim cannot be trusted these days (except its BD-R DL and XL), seeing they offshore production.

Same thing also applies to DVD burner. There is good and bad burner. Many people seems oblivious about them.

Yeah, but I used imgburn and my drive to burn other PS2 games the same day [on Emtec DVDs] and they all work [playing one of them right now]. Why wouldn't Sony DVD-Rs work? I mean, Sony is supposedly a decent brand right? I have 50 of these Sony DVDs here and I don't want them to go to waste

Sony doesn't make their own DVD. In fact these days very few brand actually comes from their own factory. Taiyo Yuden I mentioned is an exception.

Using Imgburn, tell me the media code on that Sony DVD-R.

I tried burning the game again and lo and behold, it worked... what the heck. Still doesn't explain why I had no issues burning many other games on Emtec DVDs but get issues with these. Okay so, the media code on the burned dvd that worked is shown as: 0@P-!-00 and it's the same on a blank dvd

Will try burning the game I want to play [Persona 3] and will come back with results

I never had problems with Verbatim tbh.
MKM-003 or MKM-001.
Both preform perfectly fine for me.

As for the burners.
I always preferred Liteon drives.

That's not a valid media code. Looks like the disc you are using isn't even a real deal to being with.

It's what imgburn shows under disc ID, I'm sorry

Well, I burnt Persona 3 and it's working. I really don't know what fixed it. Thanks for your time everyone.

And now the DVDs are giving me issues again [PS2 can't read the disk even though it was working earlier today]. I'm inclined to believe Sony dvds are just shitty, will steer clear from them in the future.

I think you bought fake disc (disc that aren't what Sony paid others to make) to begin with. A proper media code is something like SONY16D1, RITEKG04, etc.

A gibberish like 0@P-!-00 is not a valid media code.
