If you can find the EZ4, buy it. There's nothing better still even somewhat easy to find these days, and even the EZ4 is no longer in production. What you can find is all there is.

Eh... I've owned 2 GBAs and they're great and all, but I have hardware that does a damn good job substituting the experience. I only got the system because its a cute, tiny little square and it was $30 in excellent condition. And it was Miku green. :3

There are a few units still being produced (unless they stopped doing that recently), but they're in short supply because they're using old stock of parts no longer being produced.

That said the EZ4 was great even in its time, there were a couple better carts but it was one of the best out of the ones with SD card support. Certainly not a bad choice even if other carts were still available.

I was looking for cheap over quality as like my PSP, I intend to rarely, or never play it. I was paying for the option to play it because I never know when I might want to crack open a new save file of Golden Sun or Metroid.

have a GB Micro and 6 original games for it, Both Advance wars, both Fire Emblems and Both Golden Suns. I also have the Original Guides (love that Golden Sun 2 in 1 Combo Guide) for them all as well. I will let those go when they pry them from my cold dead fingers.. which at my age isn't that far away..

I've had it for twenty years (well, since original GBM release) and it still looks like day 1 new, wish I could say the same for the games though... I wanted a EZ4 but there is nothing quite like playing the originals on the real deal. I have several DS2 cards (and DS1i's, R4's etc..), my appropriate roms and DSi's to play them with, but they look, feel and play best on the GB Micro. Besides, where else can you get Epic Game Play (read as Movie Screen sized) on a Postage Stamp Sized Screen. Play the intro to F.E. for reference...

You bought it because you wanted to taste nostalgia first hand, and there's nothing wrong with that. Why eat a burger when you can eat steak? IMO no screen except the original has replicated the real deal to my satisfaction. Once you've played it on the right console, little else will do. I'm not being an elitist, I just love the whole experience with those particular games.

The seller said 101, but the sticker on the back says 001.

Having never owned a 101 before, I don't remember the screen being this bright, like a NDS, I don't remember the system being this light. The screen has no scratches, theres no dust build up. The buttons don't look worn, the slidders and hinge are firm, theres very little scratching on the outside, there are two brightness settings and no off setting. Even the sticker in the back shows no wear.

Theres an ebay shop online that sells "professionally refurbished" GBA models with swappable parts replaced, like screens, casings, buttons, and hinges so I'm guessing the seller that originally owned this unit may have bought one of the refurbished models from that store. It irks me it says 001 on the back but I think its a 101.

And how is Supercard? I can find it for $25. What would I get with the EZ4 for an extra $30?

to tell if its a 001 or 101 on a 001 the brightness button is on or off frontlit on a 101 its low or highest backlite brightness and also on a 001 when the system is off is gray and on a 101 when the system is off is black

Supercard is...
It's okay ish..

I'd vouch for the EZ4.
I got both as well as the M3 SD and CF, and the EZ4 wins hands down.
I'm not going for quality here, like I said, I don't even expect to play the thing for a long time.

I bought it because of the timing of the auction, and that I'd only want the option in the future. I'd rather GBA on my phone to be honest. Yes... am that irresponsible with my money to buy something I have no use for or even really want. Just want to buy a flashcart now while they're not difficult to find, call it a day, and throw it in my closet for a rainy day.

If it plays Metroid or Castlevania, thats all I need.

But I want a reason WHY EZ4 is worth the $40+Shipping. My 1st DSTwo broke, and I bought my 2nd one a year ago and never used it once. The only reason I like DSTwo is not because its "the best" but because its the only flashcart at the time of myself buying one that could patch itself without the assistance of a 2nd system if your firmware was updated.

So I'd like to know what EZ4 has that Supercard doesn't that would justify an extra $30

The regular GBA was okay, though I can't say much since I didn't own one. But disposable batteries and no backlight seem like pretty big omissions.
The SP, on the other hand, was one of Nintendo's greatest works. The buttons were perfectly clicky like a PC mouse (and still are 10+ years later!), the battery lasts forever, and you can't forget the massive game library it has!

I love my SP even I still don't have a flashcart. I really should get one, since I live romhacks so much.

EZ has better compatibility.

Supercard SD is bigger and Mini SD is equally is size to the EZ4.
The Supercards have a more simplistic GUI then the EZ.

I'd say EZ4 still.
But if you can snag the Supercard for cheaper, go for it.
