I bought my Western Digital for that price last year, its about 1.4TB full right now, but the selling point was that it boasted about being durable, atleast somewhat shock resistant, not the seagate so much, but 22 cents a Gigabyte in a convenient form factor is always a tempting offer.

I'd rather have the small one thats powed by a single USB cable. than an AC cable.
Though that $80 might have higher transfer rates

Tom and Foxi are right. You're better off investing in another brand of portable HDDs. Heard nothing but poor things about Seagate externals.

I've had a Western Digital 500 GB HDD since 2011, still working like a charm Seagate, not so much, they're not super reliable at all, nor are Toshiba drives. Sure WD costs a bit more than other brands, but it's so worth it.

#1 Thats manufacture refurbished (Used with a short warranty) not new
#2 Price of a harddrive is a Gigabyte to cost ratio. 1TB for $65 is literally the most expensive thing in here right now

I could say I've heard bad things about Seagate as well, but rather than focus on the brand, I focus on Amazon reviews. Out of all the seagate external drives on Amazon some actuall do manage to win the favor of hundreds to thousands of buyers. When nearly 1000 reviewers can come to agreement of 4.5/5 (Which is like a 9/10), I tend tend to listen to the collective thoughts of hundreds than an opinion here and there. Sometimes products of a brand aren't created equal. Mostly a WD and Samsung user, I've had my one seagate last me a decade and still going, and I've had 2 WD and a samsung fail on me. In my house, WD is more likely to fail because thats 80% of what I've had, statistics run in WD's favor to fail. If my WD was more full, I'd likely pickup that seagate in a heartbeat.

If those are refurbs, I wouldn't go for them, I'd go new if at all possible. I bought mine from 2011 at Best Buy, and try to avoid Seagate like the plague, their reliability is low. I don't know how much the MyPassport drives cost so don't quote me on what's more expensive. Drink the Bleach I've had Seagates, Maxtor, Toshiba drives in laptops, desktops, etc fail. Never once have I ever had a Western Digital drive fail on me. Reviews are good and all, but they shouldn't be the be-all-end-all in making final decisions. Relying wholly on the entirety of reviews gives you a good idea, but shouldn't be 100% trusted in.

As one who worked for Dell, and seeing as many of the machines had Seagate HDDs and failures in them, yeah, I think I know what I'm taking about when I say Seagate is overrated and unreliable.

Here's a nice graph showing the survival rate of 3 different HDDs over the course of 3 years. After the first Seagate does ok....and then shits out after about 1.5.

Seagate is absolutely terrible ever since they've merged with Maxtor. I have a Seagate Barracuda that workes perfectly fine ever since my family bought our second PC in the late 90'ties - it continues to hold data well and I have nothing but praise for it. The later Seagate Barracuda I bought... well... it "used to be" 250GB, now only about 80 is more or less usable and I still don't trust it because it randomly borks out. I also had a Maxtor drive - for 2 weeks, then it completely ceased to work. They're crap - crap, I tell you!

Surprised by the high performance of the Hitachi drive there - I wonder if it was from their high-end line.
