I've seen some games listed as only working properly on specific versions of mods/firmware (like FF Type 0), but I'm not sure which one I have. I got it used from a friend, and I'd asked him but he'd had it sitting in a box for like a year and can't remember exactly what it was.

What I do know, is that it has one of the custom batteries, and that in order to launch a game I need to first run a program called Light Minimum Edition from the Memory Stick, which will then make all the games appear in the Memory Stick menu.

But I'm sure there's more to it than that. How do I find out what type of mod/firmware I'm running and if needed, how do I go about updating it?

There should be some information under settings then system settings then system information

Hmmm... Then go to games and see if there's an app called fast recovery.

Nope. Also I just tried to load FF Type 0 and when I got to the Now Loading screen, it locked up and the PSP shut off. So I guess I can't play it with whatever configuration I have currently.

OK nice. Now just install the latest version of ME, I think its 2.1 or 2.2, and you should be able to play type 0

How exactly do I do that? Like I said, everything was already installed and set up when I got it. All I had to do was put my games on my memory stick and run the launcher.

OK first you need to download the lme custom firmware. http://zload.net/v2/archives/file/?id=2417896

Now put PSP in USB mode and into the computer

Next extract it and copy the "launcher" and "installer" folders into /PSP/GAME

Now go to the game section and open the installer and press x to install

Then when its done open the launcher. It should close right away. Now you're in the lme custom firmware.

P.S: every time your PSP completely turns off, you need to open the launcher to get back into custom firmware.

I installed the update, but FF type 0 still shuts the system off on the loading screen...

Well there is a homebrew program to determine your motherboard (called PSPIdent):

http://www.mediafire.com/download/3ovdafri3wr4siv/PSPIDENT(SIGNED).zip

I would recommend (but maybe a few disagree with me) to check your motherboard version and then delete everything from you psp and do a factory reset. Then follow a tutorial on how to mod and install a CFW. This so you know what has been done with the psp, which plugins are installed etc. etc.

Just because it's a psp 3000 with 6.60 doesn't make it useless. I bought a used 3000 for 40$ after my 6.20 pro 2000's power switch died(the umd drive didn't work anyways and it came with a free mem stick). It had 6.60 firmware and I was able to downgrade it to 6.20 before permanently installing 6.20 Pro B10
