I feel bad just signing up and making a thread, but I've been planning to sign up for awhile and I lurk around here a lot so I guess it evens out.

Anyways, I was playing The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker off of Dios Mios Lite (v2.11) using WiiFlow. I was playing, basking in nostalgia and such, and after I cleared Dragon Roost Island I started heading to the new island. When I nearly got there, the game froze and started emitting an unsettling buzzing noise. This continued for a minute or so, and I then turned off the Wii and rebooted WiiFlow and then Wind Waker.

When I returned to the game, I had to redo a lot because my save was before I cleared Dragon Roost Island. When I got on the Sea again and went for the next island, I saved right before the spot I crashed the last time. I continued on, and when I reached the point I thought a cutscene would come on showing the island and stuff, before showing the cutscene I think is there the game went to a black screen. I waited awhile, nothing happened. I rebooted the console.

I started Wind Waker back up, and I tried to boot up my save. All I got was a black screen.

Since then I've tried doing many things to fix this: Trying different DML versions (2.0, 2.5, 2.8, 2.11), messing with settings in the WiiFlow settings menu for the game, putting a disc into the disc slot, and now I'm at my last resort; The ever-helpful people of GBAtemp. If anyone can diagnose the problem and possibly point me in the right direction that would be great, I would love to play this game some more because it is my favorite Zelda game.

TL;DR: Using Dios Mios Lite version 2.11 off of WiiFlow, The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker crashed during what I thought to be a cutscene and now it won't load the save, just giving me a black screen. Help greatly appreciated.

If you don't know if it is an emulated NAND, then it isn't. Any luck with recovering the save?

I think so, I used the GCMM app someone recommended earlier and I backed it up as a GCI file to my SD card. Now I'm looking for the folder to put it in so it will load with NMM.

EDIT: I used NMM2GCI (v0.2) to convert the GCI to an NMM file. I loaded it and got the same black screen, which is what I expected but it was worth a shot. That also means the save was recovered, which is a relief. The problem is that I can't play the save because Dios Mios/WiiFlow can't load it right still, and I think it is because of that cutscene.

Alright, so I made a new save and got back to before the point in which the game blacked out last time. Are there any suggestions of things I can do before I get to the island (that may cause the crash not to happen)?

Backup your save of your SD card before you get there. That way if it happens again you won't have to redo everything from the beginning. If it happens a second time, I would consider using a different version of Wind Waker.

A different version, as in a different ISO format? I have 1:1 now, but do you think a compressed one would work better for this?

Or do you mean a different ISO altogether?

If it happens again, I would try a different ISO all together. Did you get it from the internet (if yes, DON'T SAY WHERE) or did you rip it directly from a disc?

Let's just say I got it from a "questionable source", but I own the actual game. My Wii's disc drive broke and can't read games so I have been obtaining the games I have discs for and making a "virtual collection" kind of thing.

I got ya ;) It would be ideal if you could just rip the game directly from the disc on your Wii, but seeing as that is not an option try to get past the point your game crashed last time. If it happens again, you will have a back up save, and you can always find another copy of Wind Waker. Some games are just straight up bad dumps and certain features fail to load. I've had similar things happen.
