I think we can all agree that Rayman Legends is an absolute gorgeous game, the gameplay is flawless and in terms of music it has a good mix to it but then there come the flaws of it..

Murphy Stages
zlCfzSN575osxd-SAq
The main game has a good chunk of stages which revolve around using the GamePad which means forcing the player to use Murphy with the stylus pen and this completely breaks the fun out of it, whereas on the 360/PS3 they can control them with the controller which to me is an advantage they have.
Bullshit "8bit" Stages
zlCfzSN6AuINbgRZRf
On the Living Dead Party world they've included stages with filters to make it hard, which sometimes it can be fun but seeing how the filters they used on it just made it obnoxious and absolutely annoying because you literally become incapable of seeing what the fuck you're doing or should be attacking.
This is NOT "8bits" it's barely visible, fuck, it'd be more accurate to say "2bits" to "no bits".
Punching the Same "Guy" To the Outer Space
zlCfzSJ2oHM7HseVXE
I'll admit that it was fun the first and second time but then doing it almost constantly it became quite repetitive, tedious, lack of creativity and just not fun at all.
Character Roster
zlCfzSN4rxoMjCIVh1
It's pretty lame and too many clones, specifically of the viking girls whom are just reskinned of the same. The saving grace of it is Rayman with Mario's costume.
Added Time Trials to Already Completed Worlds
zlCfzSN6UO08VT10sq
I wish they'd have put these time trial stages on its own worlds rather than shoving it in the ones which were already 100% and this just breaks the consistency of having a perfect score on it.
Aside from this shit Rayman Legends is a superb game but not without its cons, of course. *sigh*

Yes, it is very difficult game but I finished it with 100% of everything and no cheat. Patience... Of course, practice, practice and practice. :)

EDIT: I admitted that it is lack of creativity and not repeating game that came from first game.

I actually didn't really get into Legends. The game plays great (give or take a Murphy), but the level layout didn't do it for me at all. I much preferred the way Origins was structured.

I saw the game on sale last week for about 15 euros (that's 20 U.S. dollars). Didn't pick it up because I have so many platformers already, but looking back I don't regret my decision. Thanks for sharing this bit of info, none of the reviews mentioned any of these "frustrations".

P.S. I owned a PS3 before my Wii U and I had Rayman Origins, which I absolutely loved. But now with DKCTF, SM3DW, NSMBU, I just have my hands full.

15€ is a good price for this game but if you already have too many platformers it's not worth it.

Shinko, please take a look at this stage (Mariachi Madness 8bit).

At first it seems fine but then on 1:06 it's all pixelated and at 1:20 that's where I died a shit-ton of times because I had no idea what to do because as you can see the enemy wasn't visible or whatever, though luckily I just pressed buttons and from there I managed to get through it.

A big fuck you to whoever thought this stage was any good to include in the game.

Maybe the devs thought going retro would be cool but that wasn't even retro, it was just punishment for playing a great game.

I don't remember where I saw the video, but perhaps it was the E3 reveal in which the Ubisoft guys explained how important rhythm is to the game with the gameplay and music following hand in hand. I didn't like that at all from the video. I imagine this "8bit" crap is all about making it fit the chiptune-y music (which is horrible).

I'm not too far away from finishing Rayman Origins' stages and once I have all 700 Teensies (inc. collecting all Teensies from the main stages) I won't be picking this game up ever again. Sure there's the Challenges and Time Trials but that's just not good enough to keep me stuck playing any more.

I've been meaning to grab a copy of Splinter Cell Blacklist for the Wii U but only after I'm done with RL.

Albeit this is a bit off topic but I need to capture this moment because it's too fucking golden.

Have you played Rayman Legends on the Wii U? The game has a lot of swiping and it works perfectly because it's a Wii U game at heart so when it's designed to do what it should, then it functions properly.

Well, there you go. That's the problem.

Swiping it on the Wii U GamePad felt like a breeze and always precise, so it never felt tedious or took me out of the enjoyment of the game itself.

*cough* that was before I fully realised what Rayman Legends was made of and it didn't help that none of the reviews out there mentioned the cons of the game, too.

God you're a moaning sod....:P

No game is perfect, and most of these 'complaints' are minor at worst anyway:
-Murphy bits? It's a change, you either like it or lump it.... I've played both the Wii U & Xbone version and actually prefer the Gamepad stuff over the generic 'other platform stuff', so ner!
-8bit stage? God man it's a change again... this is a rhythm based level, and one of the games highlights too, I personally enjoyed the effect. Can't believe you found it difficult lol......
-Punching the same guy? "Almost constantly"??? Yeah right, a handful of times, and it takes seconds... moving on....
-Characters? Agreed, but who cares.... I prefer to play a Rayman game AS Rayman. Not a deal breaker...
-Time Trial placement? Gawd I can't even be arsed talking about this one....

That said, all this ranting about your ranting aside, I didn't rate the game as highly as I was expecting either! ...Kinda glad it went multiplat as it wasn't a system seller... but nitpicking about minor points like these could easily be done on every game out there: if dissecting games in such a manner is all you're looking to do, then perhaps a new hobby is on the cards?

They might be minor for you but for the reviewers to leave out these flaws is quite a problem because they're helping to sell a product too and doing so it's false advertisement if they're rating it 5/5 and saying "It's the perfect platforming game" or "It's the definitive edition of Rayman Legends".

You know, complaining is good because it lets others see what a game's flaws are and if you just never mention them then UbiSoft would think they've produced a flawless game.

Thank you. It's why I love whenever someone raises a point about a game that they actually own. It's not uncommon for reviewers to have played a game for a week tops before writing down a review. That's not enough time with the game to point out any flaws that may affect someone's purchasing decision.

Congratulations, you have just discovered why they put 8bit stages in the game.
And honestly I wouldn't call that a con at all. The stages are MADE to be annoying and to make shit less visible.

Its the best platform game ever made. The 8 bit stages are next to impossible, but with enough patience, the feeling of accomplishment when finishing then feels pretty good.

But are we talking about "Nintendo hard" or just frustrating levels?

I think a good modern day example of "Nintendo hard" is Champion Road in SM3DW.

This is one of the reasons why i got rid of the wii U version and got the PS4 version instead, the 8 bit levels are still a pain but at least the controls are better and no more horrible murphy stages too lol

Best platforming game ever? Well, it's a great platforming game but it'll never reach that high as to be considered the best. Between Mario 3D World and Rayman Legends regardless of being 2D Vs. 3D, I'll vouch for Mario 3D World simply due to being the better platforming game of the two.

Nice upgrade.

The only reason why I bought this for the Wii U was because of how it's the "definitive" edition and that Rayman has Mario's costume (which is what I use all the time).
