Gaming Waiting on 3DS XL to get in the mail, what's da way - Digital Games or Hard Copies?

So the only way I'm confused about what to decide is because Nintendo's eShop seems to be in the past... a past I didn't know existed. For me it's usually always Digital games because they're copies you can't break! Except in this weird situation.

I'm thinking like - if my 3DS gets stolen or lost 1 day after my 1 year warranty expires, bye-bye 500$ +

But I can kill a guy, be released from prison 25 years from now and be able to play Diablo 2, Diablo 3 and like 50 games I own on steam just by remembering my email and password.

So this makes me wonder. Should I get hard copies? If a hard copy goes missing or ruined, bye bye game. But if the 3DS itself goes missing it's bye bye all the games. Does anyone know why shit's tied to console instead of the account? This is silliness.

Please share your thoughts and opinions are welcome as well.

eShop sells games at the same price as retail, but you don't get any of the hardware. That means you're basically overpaying a lot just for convenience. There are a few eShop exclusive titles, though.

Also my point is that if your Hard Copy breaks, you're pretty much fucked.

Also, how do people actually break 3DS games? Unless you keep your carts on the floor and spend all your time wearing steel-toed boots in the dark, I dont see how theyd break...

JUst doesn't feel good? Subjective.

Good point in the rest of the message. My only issue is that Nintendo's Digital Copy can break unlike all the other digital copies of video games.

hard copies. you have the game forever as long you don't lose it.

you can sell the cart later if you decide. you can trade with friends etc...

I buy most games on eShop IF they are cheap, Nintendo has yet to know how to price tag their own games specially LAUNCH GAMES, for everything else retail, my preference, used.
Sometimes they even come with working club nintendo codes, also, I buy a lot of games from eShop because its less cartridges I carry with.

Paying real money for virtual items to me is ridiculous when you can have the hard copy in your hand. Hard copies go missing or ruined if you let them. I still have my first game console from the mid 80's and all the game in their packing too.

Yes, there is. I have done it. A not so quick call to Nintendo customer service with serial numbers (easier to find if you registered them to your club Nintendo account), and a few days later I get an email saying they tied all my stuff to my new 3DS.

go with hard copies. theres a bunch of 3ds games you probably dont wanna keep forever and you're better off being able to trade those in or sell them again on ebay.

i only grab a digital release when its on sale and has some replay value. like resident evil mercs. that occassionally is sold for 5-8 bucks and thats an acceptable deal

You don't need system transfer all you have to do is enter your Nintendo Network info & you have access I have 2 DS systems so I know

My personal recommendation is to never buy anything digital if physical is an option.

You can play physical copies on any system, lets you keep the option to sell, keep, and discard your software, maintains it's value longer, and gives you a nifty case for your shelf. 3DS games are a little bit larger than two quarters stacked on each other so the term "convenience" is subjective.

Example, if I had bought Yoshi's New Island Digitally, I would have been stuck with a god-awful useless game. I sold it for $38 after I beat it, meaning all I really did was pay a couple of dollars to play a game I knew I didn't want to keep. Another benefit of Physical was I was able to sell my Club Nintendo code separately during a promo for $13, so in actuality I had bought the game for $43 and sold it for $50. After ebay fees I profited $2. So ultimately I didn't come out of pocket at all for getting rid of a game I bought and didn't like. When you buy digital, freedoms like that don't even exist, and does Nintendo discount their digital games? Nope.

If you try to sell a digital game, you have to sell it with your system, and that game doesn't carry it's own value over physical, so it sways even less buyers. I do buy digital games... but they're often $5-$8 trinkets I can't just buy in a store. Umihara kawase is a digital-only in the states though.

Ninty MAY help you. Or they can be a bitch and demand proof of ownership. Or require a police report saying that your 3ds is stolen. This is by no means a sure method and may take excessive time and effort. Point is, they have no real obligation to transfer it for you and if they actually did then you should thank your lucky stars. I'll admit it's a possibility though.

Um, no? Unless ninty changed their policy within the last 3 months then the nnid is still locked to a single 3ds. I believe you are referring to club nintendo rather than nnid(?)

Just backing this up, that it needs to be noted and understood by Nintendo-n00bs that Nintendo ID's and Club Nintendo ID's are completely separate entities. Yes its as unintuitive as that sounds. Unlike a Club Nintendo ID, a Nintendo ID isn't just some simple account you can log in and out of and switch on the fly. The Nintendo ID you choose you're stuck with until you format your device, and formatting your device means you're losing any limited promo-content associated with that device. Its not like a Vita, an iPhone, or Android device where you login to that device and you're suddenly graced with all the past content you've bought, ready to be downloaded and played on that system without complicated time-consuming transfers.

Umh, huh, OP? A lot of the things you cited won't be available in 25 years. I doubt Steam will still exist by then. Also Diablo 3 DRM servers will be gone by then, too.

I'd still just get physical copies. Digital copies are worthless to me.

I know what i'm talking about & its not club nintendo if the games aren't tied to Nintendo Network then explain this on my WiiU I have 2 accounts & forgot the password to one of them I decided to delete it because there was no way to get a password reset due to the email having a slight error when I was about to hit delete account & I qoute it said " If I deleted the account I will lose all content asociated with the account so I didn't delete the account. I've said it before i'll say it again any & all content on a system wether it be a 2/3/DS or WiiU its connected to your Nintendo Network account not the system.
