I currently use a DSTWO and have all my DS games on it because it's easier to hold them in one card than to carry them all around, but unfortunately, the DSTWO is a power guzzler, so the amount of time I could have for playing is drastically reduced. Plus I have to eject the card when I put the 3DS to sleep because it continues to heavily drain away the battery.

The SD card slot would be a perfect solution for DS playback if it's possible, which is why I ask if it is. I haven't delve into 3DS homebrew (mainly because I'm at a version unsupported by current means), so I don't know what's possible right now.

So in essence a DS rom loader? Not a snowball's chance in hell. The people who can do it won't (and/or release).

Would it be any different than something like Nintendont or Wii rom loaders on Wii U? I'm not looking for a 3DS rom loader. I'd actually prefer minimal to no 3DS piracy until the end of this generation. The DS has run its course, and I'd simply like a more convenient way of having my games on me.

Since the 3ds works with DS and 3DS games natively... This means that if you are able to load .nds files from SD card, it's likely going to be a cinch to mod this rom loader to load .3ds file which is why people like smea won't release and/or work on it.

To do something like this you'll need an emulator.

What now? The 3ds supports DS games natively.

Come to think of it, a DS emulator running on 3DS might actually work in theory, since the hardware is there... The emulator would be in 3DS mode, and have access to ALL hardware, SD card slot and Slot 1 included. With the extra juice in the ARM11 CPU and direct hardware access, there should be little-to-no dynarec interpreting going on, and be running full speed.... In theory. ;)

Yeah sure it is, there is dsi ware on the eshop so it *should* be perfectly possible to do it by just copying how the dsi ware games work......but it would also be reliant on DS mode being fixed in gateway mode (or a homebrew mode equivalent)

DSi Wares are meant to be streamed off the SD.
Also the latter is another reason why an "emulator" would be needed.
