We alllllll remember E3 2013 fondly dont we? Nintendo did a thing nobody remembers, Sony blew up the competition. And what did Microsoft promise?
cmon say it with me now, you know the words.

TV TV TV
But Now it would appear those precious dreams :rofl2: have turned to dust in our hands, as microsoft has announced today that they are shutting down Entertainment studios, which means no more original tv content for xbox.

While the Xbox brand is remaining largely untouched by Microsoft’s sweeping 18,000 job cuts, there is one significant casualty: Xbox Entertainment Studios is being shuttered.
The studio was created in order to make exclusive television content for Xbox owners. Not everything went according to plan, however, and the studio—which employs roughly 200 people—is being phased out.
“As part of the planned reduction to our overall workforce announced today and in light of our organization’s mission, we plan to streamline a handful of portfolio and engineering development efforts across Xbox,” Xbox chief Phil Spencer said today in a statement. “One such plan is that, in the coming months, we expect to close Xbox Entertainment Studios.”
While Spencer praised the accomplishments of the studio, sources told Recode that the studio was disorganized and lacked a firm business model. This in turn chased away potential content partners, making it difficult to secure original content.

They go on to say that the original Halo TV show will be going on as planned, but damn near everything else is done.

And so Now friends, we must remember the TV oriented box as a distant and faint memory. Xbox finally realized we dont want TV shows, we dont want forced peripherals, we just want: (say it with me class)

Err...I think the OP and the title are a bit wrong, or wrongly worded.

Microsoft had purchased Nokia a while back, and a majority of these job cuts (12,500 of the 18,000) will be on Nokia's side. While the Xbox Entertainment Studio will be cut, it only accounts for approximately 200 people (as noted in the OP). So if anything, the title should be changed to something that involves Nokia...since they're the one's getting most hurt by this.

As for the news, that's pretty shitty. Happens though, so meh.

I was going to say this. The Entertainment business is only like 1% of their total layoffs. And the cutback on the mobile departments will be felt far more than that movie channel barely anyone asked for.

It's certainly sad news, but especially sad for the nokia developers. :(

18k people lost their jobs (of the Nokia team) that's really sad regardless if it of the company and if it were Activision, EA, Tecmo Koei, Capcom, Konami it wouldn't make a difference because those people too were hired not the ones in charge of the actions.

Between the modern smartphones and pre-smartphones of Nokia, I'd rather use a Nokia mobile again because of its physical buttons as I hate touch-screen and for accuracy I would need some kind of a stylus with those things, "I want to type A not S or Z!".

talk about promises you don't keep its like me promising my girlfriend to marry her then marry some other woman stabbing my girlfriend in the back

Yes, Microsoft cutting useless revenue loss is EXACTLY like you betraying and murdering your girlfriend.
Like literally the exact same concept.
Definitely.
