Hi everyone! Today i've got a new question for you. I was reading some Smea(lum)'s tweets and i found that:

2cej8u1.jpg

"got my repaired 3DS back, complete with added USB port :D big thanks to gamesquest1 for this."

The first thing i tought was: I WANT THAT USB PORT!
gamesquest1 from this forum added that port, which is a quick access to system nand, to be always ready to restore dumps! So i tought that you, gamesquest1 , or someone else in that forum could help me trought adding that usb port to my 3DS. After searching on the net, i found a similar thing on Youtube, but it was about adding a quick access port to a 3DS XL (I have a standard, small 3ds)... So, can you help me?

P.S. I know how to use a solderer...

EDIT: I have a 4.5 3ds, so i'd like to be sure to continue using my Gateway even if i accidentally update system nand....

i think thats a nand backup mod. very usefull if you have a 4.5 firmware console...

its not a big deal, its very popular here... it can be either a usb port or other kind of connector... they all do the same wich is backup the nand so you can update it and restore it so you don't have to open the console every time

if you dont own a 4.5 console, its useless for now, and before you ask, no you can't use it for manage files or other stuff...

Yeah i have a 4.5 console. I added it at first post. I was looking on a way to restore nand dumps without opening my 3ds every time...

Between these two pictures you should be able to figure it out. Just be ready with some needle files to make the hole for the port. You could also do something like this:

This way the port is hidden by the battery cover.

its not an actual usb port exactly its just a way of externalizing nand access so it ends up like this

if you dont have any luck finding the pinout for the 3DS check here
http://3dbrew.org/wiki/Hardware
never mind hundshamer shared everything you should need

the normal 3DS is trickier than the XL the CLK point is on the other side of the PCB and is quite small so it can be a bit tricky,

Do we have to link between the 2 points in yellow shown in picture 1?

Nope you can connect to either point for the clk point, but both have their issues the one on the right is on the back of the board and quite small so can be tricky to solder to if you don't have much experience, and the one on the left is underneath the card slot, so that one requires the whole card slot to be removed

Can this be done with the 2DS as well ?
I seem to remember seeing a pinout for the 2ds, but not sure where it was might be worth a search on here, it might be handy to have a backup on the 2ds just in case a exploit is released, but for the moment there is no exploits for the 2ds, so it would only be for possible future exploits, smealums ssspwn works upto 7.x, and potentially on 8.x too, but it's always good to have downgrade possibilities

yeah I havn't updated my 3DS/2DS to 8.0 yet (still have a few 3DS XL at 4.5). Was going to backup the nand on the 2DS first since I don't have anything digital on it in case I screw up. I think this is the pinout for 2DS I'll give it a try sometime http://gbatemp.net/attachments/2ds-nand-pinout2-jpg.7655/

I think I'll have the port installed just incase an exploit for 2DS is released the 2DS is just a 3DS in tablet form it would also be great if there was a clamshell mod for 2DS

It's not useless if the console isn't on 4.5. In all honesty - 4.5 is dead. 9.2 is the superior firmware now... Pasta-CFW for piracy, Themes, GW support etc etc.... What more could you want? As long as his console is below 9.2 - it's worth getting a NAND mod. He could even downgrade a system to 4.x, assuming he has an exploitable firmware.

Conclusion: it's useless if its ABOVE 9.2 without a NAND backup of something below 9.2.

Edit: I just realised how old your response was xD - surprised this thread is on the main page :P
