Hacking Some advanced questions rearding gateway and emunand

Hi, I just have a few questions, I couldnt find the answer for them, hopefully somebody can here answer them

1. If you didnt select "Format Emunand" at the first start, and you go into gateway mode(or classic mode), are you then on firmware "GW3D", or on the normal firmware? What would happen if you update here? Can you still setup emunand at this point?
2. If you have emunand setuped, can you also access the gateway mode(or classic mode) without emunand, and if yes, how?
3. When does the firmware say "GW3D" and when are you safe to do a system update?
- Gateway mode without emunand?
- classic mode(through gateway menu) without emunand?
- Gateway mode with emunand?
- classic mode(through gateway menu) with emunand?
4. How do you access these 4 Modes listed at point 3, if you have a standard gateway card with/without emunand, if the process different if you have emunand setuped or not?

1. if you didnt set up emunand (format emunand option) it will be running gateway/classic mode from your system nand. any updates here will update your sysnand
2. no once enunand is set up it will always default to emunand, a sort of bypass would be having a second SD card with the launcher.dat file on it with no emunand set up....but it wouldn't have your saves unless you copy them over all the time
3. when the system settings shows GW3D you can safely update, this applies to gateway/classic mode with emunand set up, if system settings does not show GW3D this means you dont have any emunand set up and any changes will be applied to your sysnand

May be a little special these questions, but I'm interested

1. yeah
2. yes if emunand is not set up it will display "ver." in system settings but you can still use the gateway card...never update unless you are in emunand i.e it displays GW3D in system settings
3. gateway mode lets you use the gateway card, classic mode lets you play 4.x+ retail games and region free on 4.x....same as if you have emunand set up

Actually, it will say Ver. instead of GW3D when loading classic mode, regardless of emunand. ONLY UPDATE IN GATEWAY MODE!!! It's been right there in the instructions that have come with each version of Gateway software since emunand first came out.

Okay, and for game update purposes, will gateway always skip the game updates (on ROMs/gateway mode and cardriges/classic mode)?, and does that update bypassing happen always, regardless if emunand is enabled?

Actually, it will say Ver. instead of GW3D when loading classic mode, regardless of emunand. ONLY UPDATE IN GATEWAY MODE!!! It's been right there in the instructions that have come with each version of Gateway software since emunand first came out.

ive always updated emunand in classic mode. Mostly because I didn't even have a GW until recently. It still says GW3D in settings.

You aren't talking about the offical update of nintendo?
Cause that Gateway requires only 4.5. Probably not or we wouldn't have emunand.
