The title already says it. I'm playing on a 4.1 Japanese 3ds with Emunand 7.2 on classic mode and I don't have the gateway flashcart, also my MK7 is an american cartridge. Is there a way to update it to 1.1?

Search for MK1.1 rom. Do not ask for it here.

Dump your retail MK, extract header. Insert header in MK1.1 rom. Play.

There is one way, but it's not for the typical end user. It requires you to have either a NAND access mod, or some soldering skills. First you install your mod, make a backup of your NAND, update, download the update, then restore your 4.1 NAND.

That wouldnt work for sysNAND alone, you still need emuNAND for this procedure (or i´m talking bogus right now, but i´m pretty sure that the update needs to be wirtten on SD card as well as being registered inside the NAND). You´d need the http://gbatemp.net/threads/emunand-tool-release-and-support-thread.359239/ and inject your extracted 7.2 sysNAND into the emuNAND partition. This requires you to have a working NDS flashcart in order to install the exploit and create an emuNAND.

I'll give you a more detailed and impossible to misunderstand explanation

Hardware mod required (Note: you said 3DS, didn't specify if normal or XL.. XLs are easier to solder, but normal ones are still doable, google for a video, if you don't have the skills, find someone, who does)

Backup SysNAND 4.1
Update SysNAND to 7.2
Download MK Patch
Backup SysNAND 7.2 with MK Patch
Restore SysNAND 4.1
Inject SysNAND 7.2 with MK Patch into EmuNAND

now you have your 4.1 SysNAND and a 7.2 EmuNAND with the patch, enjoy

to inject a NAND, you can use the beforementioned tool

I think some people didn't read the first post. His system and game cartridge are not from the same region (I might be wrong, but I think the patch from one region will work with another region's game).

This won't work, I've already tried. Probably the new version of Mario Kart needs a different header from the old one.
EDIT: Sorry, It will work, but you'll lose your save

well he doesnt have a gateway, so header injection etc wouldnt be possible,

the only options he would have is buying a gateway and getting the 1.1 patched rom and injecting his header from his 1.0 cart

or trying to buy a cart that has the 1.1 update built in, but this would be pretty difficult to find as there is no real difference between the carts visually

But I was thinking what _v3 said, my cartridge is american and my eshop is japanese, so would a japanese eshop update an american mk7 cartridge?
