Id like to be able to split my screen into being able to watch my movies and shows off of a usb drive while running my gba emulator at the same time on the other half of the screen. I was just wondering if anyone knows how to do this? or if it was possible to create such an app?

First post and im thoroughly interested in this idea appreciate any and all feed back thanks guys!

As far as I know, the Wii ain't got the juice to do it.

Yeah the Wii and the Wii-U are game systems and despite the fantastic efforts of the homebrew community that is all they will ever be (I do use my Wii for a lot of stuff though lol).

If you want weird functions like that your going to need a PC, and possibly PS4 or Xbox One as long as they get either hacked or they allow those functions.

But as of right now, your have to have a PC to do what your asking. (Some Android devices may have this ability also?)

To do exactly what the OP wants he would need a fairly beefy PC running Dolphin and any sort of media streaming app.

The upside to doing it that way is you could do all kinds of stuff once you jump to PC's.

Yeah, the Wii simply isn't powerful enough for it. It stutters with simple DVD playback from my experience. To be fair that has been a while, but I can't imagine it has improved any. Maybe videos from a flashdrive work better? I don't have experience with that. Not to mention you certainly wouldn't be able to emulate anything on the Wii while all it's processing power is used up by video playback. Maybe someone out there could do it, but I don't see how it would be possible sadly.

As the others said the Wii U, and indeed most consoles, are not built for multitasking and the few instances of it happening for general programs are usually for smaller and somewhat slower plugins.

Your best bet is to hope some of the Wii linux distros have a worthwhile video player and a worthwhile emulator. Also given the Wii was not terribly multicore, high in memory nor outputting at a great resolution (576 high at best, whoo) you might be in for a fun time.

The bigger problem here is the fact that there's no overseeing OS or window manager running in the background that could do this, not the Wii's horsepower. You could manage this by installing Linux onto your Wii and using Linux software rather than Wii's native homebrew.

Maybe your TV can do it, I know some TVs have picture-in-picture functionality.

I thought I had heard something about that, was it a feature of a specific phone or is it new with Kitkat or is a launcher? (I am still on 4.2, only apps that can be shrank to the task bar up top can run while I use something else :( lol but at least I can listen to iHeartradio while I surf the web.) If it's a launcher that would kind of suck... I love ADW so much lol

Yeah when doing multitasking it's largely the OS that has to schedule things. It also helps to have multiple cores to have resources to schedule things too. Multiple apps in Windows worked pretty well on a single core due to preemptive multitasking, back in the old days we had to make due with bad tech :( lol bad programmed apps would lock up the system and cause all kinds of crashes ALA Windows 95-ME.

Its a feature exclusive to samsung's touchwiz launcher (will only run on samsungs devices)
but you can go pretty crazy with it if you wanted too...

You may actually run multiple windows with either Xposed or a HALO-enabled rom

While HALO only allows one window, Xposed may allow you more at once, assuming your tablet can handle it
