Gaming Mario Kart 8 [Digital] freezing the whole Wii U system

I've played roughtly 2 hours since release date (2 days ago) and now it just freezed for the 4th time :-(

I downloaded the game, installed it on the internal memory and could only play the first cup of 50cc without any problems. Now in the 2nd cup (I tried both original and legacy cups) it keeps freezing in the 2nd or 3rd track.

I have not tried online yet.
And as it freezes, the only option I have is to turn off the Wii U at the console button, because if I try to turn off using the controller, nothing happens.

Does anyone have the same problem?

I am experiencing the same problem. I am using digital (eshop) copy and every now and then, my game keeps on freezing. I have searched the internet for a solution and I can't find one. I have tried deleting the Shared Save Data, but it still won't work. I have borrowed a physical copy, and the same problem/issue exists.

Same issue, got one freeze during the airport race.. Played the game only 3h or so max since I have it.

And guess what ? Digital version too.

No problem in any other game I have (all digital) : finished 100% NSMB U, Luigi U, DKC TF and SM3DW so I doubt my Wii U is failing (or is it just now that MK8 is out ? What a coincidence...)

i have the eshop version, too, but installed on an external hdd. i havent had any problems so far

Same here. External HDD (with Y-cable just in case) and working beautifully. 32GB just isn't enough.

I would definitly contact Nintendo Support.

Maybe you should also send e-mails to Nintendo?
I've already done it, but I'm pretty sure they will come out with a solution only if more people tell them the issues the game is presenting.

By the way, my the "Wii part" of my Wii U is hacked with The Homebrew Channel and stuff. Maybe that's the problem? Are yours hacked too?

yes mine is hacked too but i doubt it's related to this.

A random question - is your console laying flat or on its side ? I had the same issue with the game tonight. Every time I started to race it would freeze within the first two minutes of racing - it did this four times in a row (the freezing was also accompanied by a short tone). I tried deleting the save game data to no effect. I then put the console flat and then played ten races in a row without a problem. So no idea if this has fixed the problem or if it is just random luck. Worth a shot though.

scratch that. Played about 20 races and it was fine, then randomly froze again. Does it happen for everyone else in single or multiplayer mode ? For me it tends to be mostly multiplayer mode (and FYI - this is a retail disc with the console on the latest OS).

I have played MK8 digital for like 30+ hours. No freeze. Installed on internal HDD. Homebrewed. Upright.

I don't know what more should be done.
Tried installing it to an external HD, external flash drive, playing with different controllers, with and without disk inserted on the tray, single player, multiplayer on an offline, wireless on and off... no matter what I do, it ALWAYS freeze! I could not, until now, finish the game because I wanted. EVERY single playing session ended because of the freezing issue.

I tried to contact Nintendo a lot of times via e-mail. By phone, it always says that their lines are all busy.

I'm almost deciding giving up playing the game... :-(

For me it freezes more often on single player mode.
It freezes when I'm playing from 3th to 5th race.

When I play online I can race around 10 times before freezing.
