Edit: Sony isn't going anywhere, Sony have big plans for E3, and so far as of lately, their doing fine. I'm not mad, I just don't like when stuff like this seems so opinionated on one thing, and talks about it with every negative aspect about it. While I do admit, Sony do have money issues, it is probably gonna be fix within the next few years, but as the article say "Sony Might Not Exist By End Of Console War" seems entirely inaccurate. Thanks for the article though. If anything, this article should be talking about Nintendo, and their major cons that they need to fix. Sony just has minor issues, that hasn't made a big impact like Nintendo.

Sorry if you seen my previous post, I tend to go off at times lol.

This time of year again is it.

However news of things like this is usually worth sharing/knowing about so thanks for that.

Or, bear with me here, the PS4 will be the most successful console of the generation, a likely outcome, and Sony will be just fine. Anybody thinking the Wii U will take top even now is clearly delusional, and the Xbox One just won't penetrate the world market as well as the PS4 for a myriad of reasons. In the long run, Sony will be just fine.

They predict Sony will loss $490 million fiscal year, rise the amount of loss to nearly 100 billion dollar in seven year.
PS4 are they last bet and it doing great but will it save them from sinking to the bottom by the end of this gen?
Even if Sony Corporate went bankrupt, the Playstation brand is safe since its a big money maker. The troubles of the parent company shouldn't slow it down.

I'm not sure why Nintendo is being discussed in a Sony thread but whatever.
Nintendo is losing money because of bad sales, however Sony is losing money despite winning the current generation, which should be a bigger concern.

Because the assumption that Sony will go bankrupt is directly related to the approximate time span of the newest generation of consoles. Even though the article tries to point out that Sony is losing money not just because of its gaming division, it continues to come back to PS4 vs Xbox One and the console wars, creating what they clearly feel is a significant correlation between the PS4, the console war, and Sony's financial future. This brings in the idea they they expect the PS4 to lose, for whatever reason, and thus invites conversation of the current console war as a whole. It's all about the correlation.

Anyways, having actually read the article, I don't know why it exists. Everybody already knows Sony is trudging along financially right now. They'll survive, but it won't be an easy journey. It isn't as if the PS4 will break them. If anything, it may be a slight financial boon that grows over the next few years. It won't exclusively save the company, but it certainly won't hurt it either.

Eh? What?

I'm just pointing out that this article should've been about Nintendo instead of Sony, because if anything that they said in this article about so called "Big Sony failures" really hasn't made a big impact like Nintendo losses, so basically there comparable, thus why I'm mentioning a bigger case like Nintendo, because this article is really isn't selling to the audience. There has been game companies related statements, so why can't talk about a case that's also related between gaming companies? I'm just comparing it by what has made a bigger impact overall.

The thing with Sony is, it's gaming division is one of its most successful and most profitable. Even if the company downsizes or goes through restructuring, which is very likely, they're not going to touch the goose that lays the golden eggs (give or take a Vita).

Sony is likely in trouble because people remember the bad things.....PSN getting hacked, overpriced products, rootkits in music CD's, planned obsolescence, non-standard cords and plugs, replacement parts for many Sony products inaccessible to the general public, poor build quality, lack (or flat out denial) of support or info or help for known product issues/defects, and whatever other crap they've pulled over the years.

I'm talking Sony in general, not just video games.

They cause this stuff themselves. People will rebel when they feel they've been taken advantage of too many times. And now it's biting Sony in the ass. Just desserts, I say.

Sony's not going anywhere, it's a massive conglomerate with numerous divisions. They're in the process of cutting off the fat and investing in the ones that do bring revenue. This is yet another instance of someone blowing the stockmarket whistle when nothing's really happening and it's usually about Sony.

The same thing happened when the Macroaxis bot calculated that Sony has a 79% probability of going bankrupt within the next two years - I don't remember anyone making a similar article when the exact same bot calculated that Nintendo has a 76% probability of bankrupcy within two years:

In case you're interested, right now it's 74.87%. Sound the alarm, Nintendo's going bankrupt! Everybody jump ship! ...except it isn't.

tl;dr Not going to happen kthnxbye. ;O;

Uh, isn't the PS4 already making Sony profits? Where as the PS3 took until like 2011 for a profit to turn.
Yup. The PS4 is already turning a profit on each unit sold, Sony announced that a month ago or so. Every PS4 sold from that time onwards prints money.

EDIT: Ah, there we go: http://www.engadget.com/2014/05/23/sony-hirai-ps4-profit/

tl;dr said:
"Sony president Kaz Hirai said the PS4 was "already contributing profit on a hardware unit basis, establishing a very different business framework from that of previous platform businesses." (...) The Sony president's comments don't come as much of a surprise. In fact, they back up the company's recent full-year earnings report that showed gaming-related sales had shot up 53 percent on the back of the PS4."

Quick question, wasn't the price cut for the Xbox one supposed to be a new sku without the Kinect? The article speaks about a price cut, but it's not a price cut, it's a new bundle

If Sony is really going under, they'll just split the Playstation division off into a seperate entity.
Also you know they'll be revising the hardware for a cheaper slim unit soon enough, for an even higher profit margin.

Yeah, people are saying the kinect-less xbox one is a price drop. It's just the phrasing everyone keeps using.

Some article. It's an attempt to put the PS4 in a bad light, but it actually achieves the exact opposite.

Sony's electronics department isn't doing so well. That's where all the dangerous red numbers come from. As said before, that doesn't affect their video branch industry, which is actually making money. So when those scary lay-offs and cost-cuttings will take place...does anyone really think it'll be in their videogames department? Nobody, of course. Rather the contrary. It may spell bad news if you're a fan of their televisions, stereo installations, ebook readers or what have you, but chances are high their efforts will just shift MORE of their company to their video games.
So in a way, I disagree that sony is going nowhere. I think they will be going EVEN MORE in the PS4 direction.
