I've noticed that lately the news posts have been suffering.
Not only are the front page news not as easy to view at a glance as they used to be before xenForo (far from all news are posted, and the way only a few big news posts are displayed on the Portal page at a time means people will easy miss important news when a few news posts are posted within a short time)

For example I never saw the April Smash Bros. Direct from Nintendo on the front page news. That was a huge event and I missed it because it was never posted on the front page. It's one thing if smaller news are skipped because you are lacking in news reporters, it's another entirely if huge news like this is skipped.

So long story short, I think GBAtemp needs to "hire" more reporters. There are a few reporters right now that do a good job but they are simply not enough to cover all the news. There are less homebrew and release news than there used to be back in the GBA/NDS days, but there are still plenty of gaming news and not all of them are posted on the frontpage. Now that 3DS hacking is starting to take off and the WiiKeU is opening preorders soon I think it's becoming even more important to have more news reporters.

Also, the portal page could use an overhaul to be more like the old one. The portal page posts displayed tend to be long and there are very few per page regardless. I'm not saying it should be like the old one, only that it should give a quicker overview over news, without large posts that aren't really necessary for those who just want to view the latest news quickly and at a glance.

happy coincidence? I don't know, but...
no sooner than yesterday we started a staff thread (internal/staff only) about how we could reorganize the portal
the general consensus is that we are quite dissatisfied with our current front page.
before we begin to consider hiring more reporters, our priority is to improve our portal, this will probably mean a full redesign.
thank you for your input!

Thanks for the reply. I heard similar things from Ryukouki so it's good to know that something is already being done about it.

I suggest designing it the way it was on IPB. Also a release box is overdue.
I liked the IPB portal design, but wouldn't limit it to that. I would like to see them make a design even better than the one that was on IPB.
There is a release box, but it's getting data from NFORush, there's little information available, and NFORush has been going offline for long periods of time so it hasn't been that useful. It also only displayed the latest 10 (?) releases in total, that includes a lot of releases most people won't care about.

If you have some examples of websites that you particularly like, and that you think we should take ideas from, feel free to post links :)
we aren't going to rip everyone off, just getting some ideas that we can combine together to make the best possible frontpage
