My Best Buy still has a few of them laying around and I've been tempted to pick one up for the hell of it...but I can't really seem to find a point blank answer to if it's possible to soft mod it by now and if not, why can't it be?

Thanks guys.

There's only one USB slot and no SD card slot, which the hack is installed from, therefore, having no SD slot renders the potentiality of hacking impossible. Unless someone could somehow manage to solder an SD slot to the motherboard, there's simply no way to hack a Wii Mini.

Ahhhh I did not know about the lack of SD. Thanks that makes sense then.

Yeah, it sucks. Sorry dude :P Glad I could help :D If you can, you should be able to pick up a used or refurbished regular Wii for dirt cheap ;) That would be your best bet as all system firmware versions can be hacked.

Technically you can - you could always use Infectus or some other flashing solution, dump the NAND, modify it on PC and re-flash it. The real question is "why would you want to?" when classic Wii's are readily available and superior in every way? No SD, no WiFi, no fun, really. :)

Ooh, forgot about the no WiFi part, the Wii Mini is pretty damned useless, a used Wii would be much better.

And possibly cheaper if you know where to look. :yay:

The Wii Mini is a collector's item as far as the modding community is concerned, it's just like the PSP-Street - no advantages and a mountain of disadvantages in the form of vain attempts at making the system more affordable by cutting out essential functionality.

Never heard of that PSP model, sounds like crap :P Now with a used Wii, you're most likely guaranteed to have it last for a long time despite being used, correct? I might get one in the near-future for the heck of it (okay, and to mod).

The only line of Wii's that's ever had any hardware-related problems was the very first batch with the infamous blue slot of death due to GPU meltdowns and even those were relatively rare. The only thing a Wii might suffer from is a broken slot loader and that particular part isn't necessary for USB loading so it's hardly a big deal. Wii's are weak in terms of horsepower but they're built to last, at least that's my experience with the system. If you can, get an early system with Gamecube ports and an early drive, they're the best out of the bunch since they support Gamecube games, controllers and DVD's.

Don't care much for DVDs on the Wii, emulation is all I do. I do have a Wii from 2007, but it's currently at my parent's home (where my brother is living in the mean time) while I have a Wii U at my apartment. Sure, I can install most hacks a Wii can, but it's not the same and can be hassle when it comes to resetting/rebooting if you get a lock up. Emulation and USB backup is all I care about lol :P I'm sure one I can find plenty in my current city for dirt cheap on Craigslist, screw shipping costs :D

I don't think I'd be keen on modifying current generation consoles unless I had a backup of that console - there's too many updates coming out all the time which really do improve the overall performance and too much online stuff that I don't want to miss out on, not to mention the possibility of something "going wrong". I had an exploit installed on my PSVita but I ended up updating anyways because in my mind the pro's outweighed the con's tenfold. Honestly, I'd keep my Wii backups where they belong - on a Wii. P

I already hacked it, had something gone wrong, only vWii would be killed off, I got lucky, but I d want a Wii just so I'd have quicker access to said hacks (shorter loading time, easy to reset). Already have all my backups on my trusty 500 GB HDD, so I'm good. Only problem is making sure I install everything in order if/when I do get one.

You can't do that. The NAND is encrypted with a key unique to each device which you can't get without being able to run custom software in the first place. If what you describe was possible there wouldn't be any such thing as a permanently bricked wii.

Again, a regular Wii needs to be used instead.

You really don't know when to just shut up, do you? Go back and read what you replied to, then wipe your posts of the embarrassing evidence like you always do.

Tut tut, be a little nicer to your fellow tempers.

As for OP.
You could opt getting a WiiKey fusion or a Wode (considering you want to play backups)
Other then that, Like Foxi said, Just get a regular Wii.
Theres... 80 million? of them sold and are cheap as dirt these days.

You know, resorting to insulting other members and speaking to them in a condescending manner isn't the most efficacious modus operandi. I would advise against it. I really don't appreciate it. Calling me Captain Obvious was uncalled for, the OP knows by now to not get a Wii mini, you needn't be unnecessarily prudish.

You should update the 360 to newest dash before RGHing it yes. But not a big deal if you don't, you can install new dash/avatar updates after. It's just easier to do it auto online before, instead manual offline after.

@BigOnYa I wanted to ask you about your experience with seeing south park. Most of the people a bit younger like my younger brother and cousins that are a few younger than me that saw kids found south park funny because of the curse words, kids at school, that seemed like liking the show on a very basic level.

I could not quite have a in depth discussion of the show.

How was it for you? As an adult. What did you find the most interesting part about it. Did you relate to the parents of the kids and their situations. Was it satires, the commentary on society. The references on celebrities' and pop culture.

I remember seeing the very first episode back in the day, and have watched every episode since. I used to set my VCR to record them even, shows how long ago.

I just like any comedies really, and cartoons have always been a favorite of mine. Family guy, American Dad, Futurama, Cleveland Show, Simpsons - I like them all.

South Park is great cause they always touch on relavent issues going on today, and make something funny out of it.

@BigOnYa were you always up to date on the current events and issues of the time or were there issues that you first found out thru south park

Most of the time yea I knew, I watch and read the news regularly, but sometimes the Hollywood BS stuff, like concerning actors slip by me. I don't follow most Hollywood BS (example: the Kardasians)

  • S @ salazarcosplay:
@BigOnYa there were relevant issues before south park was made, that's why i think a south park prequel/spinoff would be great. Randy and his friends in their child hood

Yea, like them running in high school together, getting into stuff, and how they got hitched and had kids. And how the town of South Park was back then compared to now. That would be cool to see.

    yeah
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@salazarcosplay if they made a prequel, it would still be about current issues, cause it doesn't make sense to make it about stuff that happened 30 years ago that nobody cares about anymore

the older south park episodes about particular issues usually age poorly since the topic is no longer relevant
