GBAtemp Staffer Foxi4 has been tinkering with the Everdrive GB for the last week and has finished up his review of the cart!

The Everdrive GB is Game Boy/Game Boy Color flash cart from the famous Everdrive line of products by Krikzz.

:arrow:The Review

Thanks to Retrogate for supplying the sample cart and krikzz for the support!

The review center is not a part of the forum structure, it's a separate part of the site. ;)

thanks, nice review, is everdrive gb menu in monochrome? did you tried it on a gba\sp?

how long it takes to flash a 8mb game?

how about battery draining, is the same as a retail game?

It's in monochrome on the Game Boy, Blue-ish on the Game Boy Color and Orange on the Super Game Boy. No idea how long flashing an 8MB game would take as the biggest one I tested was The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons which is 1mb, it took around 20-30 seconds. I'd assume it drains the battery a bit more than a standard cart, but it's hard for me to gauge because I'm using rechargable 1.2V cells and the Game Boy always thinks they're "low" since normal AA's are 1.5V. ;)

RTC is used in a handful of games and really isn't a big deal in the grand scheme of things - there are patches and Game Genie codes that make up for its lack, for better or worse. Krikzz is always tinkering, nobody knows what projects he has up his sleeve before he announces them. :P

The impossibility to order files and folders alphabetically is a big problem for whoever is looking forward to putting the full gb/gbc romset on this.

Yeah, it is a shame indeed - you have to pay attention to the order of the files when copying. I remember 3DS flash carts suffering from the same issue.

Hi Foxi4! So to be clear there is also multisave support so that each game can be completed without the save file being overwritten each time you load a new game?
Yep. Whenever you switch games, the save file is automatically backed up to the EDGB folder on the SD card. When you re-flash that game back, the save file is once again accessible. You can have as many save files as you deem fit.

Thanks for clarifying Foxi4. I really want this cart. Coming from a collector who dreamt of owning Doctor GB/Mr. Flash cards only to realize how cumbersome they are to use, the prospect of drag and drop multirom support is exciting!

Do you think these cards would ever run out of stock anytime soon or increase in price? I'm willing to pay the $88 but I rather pay less...

The first batch of the Everdrive GB cards sold really quickly, but I was told that they are restocked and once again available for purchase. There's definitely a lot of buzz around this thing, but I don't think the price will increase or decrease - Everdrives are generally sold between $80-$150 depending on the complexity of the PCB. You might find it cheaper if you look around, but I suggest official distributors - they're listed on http://krikzz.com/index.php?route=information/information&information_id=7.

Stone Age Gamer sells them a little cheaper if you can deal with having it be board only, but they're out of stock.

There's been some commotion regarding PCB-only units - some users just shoved microSD's into their Everdrive GB's and enclosed them in original Nintendo casings without taking into account the size of the microSD card and broke their SD's in the process. Starting from the second batch, the Everdrive GB sells in casings only to avoid such issues in the future.
