I've been looking all over the place, but I still haven't gotten a clear-cut answer. Is it possible to system transfer from a 7.1 3ds to a 7.1emu 3ds and still be able to go online with everything transferred and the sys/emunand intact?

From what i understand is that it should work if you use classic mode, but im not 100% on that so i would wait for someone with a definite answer! Good Luck.

Is classic mode the one where you can play cartridges? Because I did a transfer last night and it wasn't that mode and it worked fine.

Your question does not really make any sense, cause if your 3DS is on system firmware 7.1 then you cannot have 7.1 Emunand anyway!

Two different 3DS consoles. One on 7.1, the other is 4.5.

He wants to set up EmuNAND on the 4.5 3DS and copy his games from his 7.1 3DS onto the EmuNAND of the exploitable 3DS.

It's not that difficult to understand.

Well the answer is no because when you format the 3DS with the 7.1 emunand, it formats the SD card to that 3DS, so when you put the info from the 7.1 3DS to the SD card in the 7.1 Emunand 3DS it wont work, so no. He will have to download them again of e-shop to that SD card! The only files that you can transfer that will work are your save files .sav files.

Actually, it DOES work, and it is possible to perform a System Transfer from a 7.1 3DS to a 7.1 EmuNAND. I did it like two weeks ago.

The only info I can't seem to remember is whether I used GW mode or Classic.

So basically you have to set up the EmuNAND up to 7.1. I recommend using quite a high capacity SD card, especially if you have 3DS digital games. Keep in mind that EmuNAND uses around 1GB of the SD card.
Once EmuNAND is good to go, I'd use GW mode to perform the system transfer, but I'd rather you wait for a confirmation on that peculiar step.

Take absolute care during the System Transfer : during my first attempt, the 3DS XL that ran EmuNAND asked me to update, although I knew EmuNAND was already at the latest version. So I figured I had somehow came back to SysNAND. If that ever happens just cancel the update and the System Transfer, then try the procedure again, making sure you're in EmuNAND before trying the transfer again.

During the System Transfer procedure, the 3DS with EmuNAND is going to ask you whether you want to format its SD card since the contents won't be readable after the System Transfer. If you have any data that pertains to the SysNAND, DO NOT format the SD, as you'll lose this data. If you don't then that choice isn't really relevant.

Once the 3DS System Transfer is done, instead of swapping the two SD cards, just copy over the contents of the 7.1 3DS SD to your EmuNAND one and voila, you have your games and saves to your EmuNAND system.

I can assure you that online play is possible for retail games (either cartridge or digital, I've already done lots of Pokemon battles and trades). I usually prefer to run EmuNAND on classic mode while I do online play, although I don't know if running that in GW mode has any influence.

Another thing to keep in mind : if you already have digital games on your EmuNAND, they're not gonna be usable/playable after the System Transfer.

One thing that I don't know, but perhaps someone has already tried and can tell you about this : use a new SD card (one that is not your 7.1 one, or the EmuNAND one) to setup a new EmuNAND using GW, and update the EmuNAND to 7.1 then perform the System Transfer. You should be able to use the two EmuNAND SDs depending on which games you want to play, but I'm not really sure whether this setup will withstand going to the e-shop... Again this is speculation and I would rather you wait for a confirmation from other users.

I think GW mode and classic mode are the same thing, when you don't insert anything into cart slot. Difference is GW mode supports GW red card while classic mode supports normal carts.

When I did the transfer, I was just on Emunand and not classic mode. To get you eshop games on Emunand after you transfer, just copy the 3DS folder from the old SD card to the one with EmuNAND.

awesome, thanks for the info guys! I successfully transferred all my stuff, but I'm still a bit scared to test out the eshop haha.

EDIT: Okay something really strange happened. I booted up my physical version of Bravely Default to find that all my save data was gone. Now, I decided to test some other games that had relation to the sd card in any form, so i tried my physical pokemon y. Upon booting it up, it tells me that my save data is corrupted.

Now, I don't know for sure if the system transfer or the sd card has anything to do with these 2 games' save data loss, but it is pretty likely. I'm not too troubled over the loss as I've already played those games to my heart's content, in fact now I have an excuse to do expshare-less nuzlocke in pokemon lol.

I'll try running these games on my old 3ds later on, I'll report here if I find anything.
